hi guys, how are yall?

i've been here in chicago for 6 months, and i still didnt find a job, i've sent so many applications but since i dont have experience or references i get denied all the time..

can anyone give me tips on what to do or how to do it??

You need to start from the bottom, with easy jobs so you can acquire some experience. Apply for cashier jobs, or fast food jobs, restaurant jobs...Or you may obtain a lifeguard certification and look for a lifeguarding job, as summer is coming up soon!Lifeguard certifications are fast and easy to obtain if you know how to swim!

Can your former employers send your prospective employer a reference via email? Some have done that successfully.

For what type of positions are you submitting applications? Is there a specific field where you want to work? If so, you should look into the area networking groups. If you're in Chicago, there are plenty of professional groups for various careers. Also, it may be helpful to visit a temp employment agency like Kelly Services or Manpower. They can take a look at your résumé or help you put one together.

NETWORKING is the key in getting a job. Nowadays it's hard to find jobs and most companies only accept referrals. Ask people around you if they know people who are hiring.

Chicago seems to be difficult. I found a part time office clerk job at my husbands company, it lasted 100hours..which was not what i was told. Was suposed to be for 6 months. Needless to say after a few weeks and a few days before Christmas i was let go. sigh. And with alot of stores closing and laying people off even schools laying off crossing guards around where i live its not that easy anymore.

Have you thought of doing some kind of volunteer work? It's a good way to gain references.

Illinois esp Chicago is tough place to find job. I've got 5 interviews in the city but didn't get the job. That's when I decided to find jobs on closer states. I've got offers from two states, I chose the closest one so that it's easy for me and my husband to come and see our friends and family in illinois.

We relocated and my husband quits his job to move with me and gi back to school.

Now, previous companies I've been applying before wanted to interview me, but we're not coming back to illinois where gas price is 60 cents higher than where we're living now.

By the way, have you tried to do some volunteer or if you have college degree, be a tutor. I did tutoring before and I'm getting $20 per hour and every session is minimum of 3 hrs. Its not stressful and you're investment only is reference books. Once you started it, you will have more students.

Yeah, it's a bit tough to find a job in Chicago. This year I started looking for a job towards the end of January and only got called for 2 interviews. Thankfully, I was hired in the second one, but I do have experience in the field I was applying to. I also found the job on Craigslist. There are a lot of listings but you have to be careful since there are tons of scams going around. Also try indeed.com and monster.com

For temp jobs you may want to check out Kelly Services - I've never tried it but I have a friend who did and found a few temp jobs to get by.

Yes he is right. Try with small jobs, gain experience then apply for big one.
