Saylin- I need your help and guide...so I noticed today that a K1 case in DR got their interview date. I know its a total different case as mine, but at the time of giving out interview date can that mean that they are giving out dates to CR1 cases too? Should I be calling more frequently (not that I don't as it is)?

I'm not sure if in the DR they schedule interviews for both types of visas at the same time. It's quite possible though. Have you called yet today?

I have been waiting 2 weeks for an interview date and nothing...I am starting to believe they will only give out May interviews as soon as April arrives so please can April get here...

I'm beginning to think that's true. My case complete was 14 Feb, we received notification beginning of March of interview in April

Take a Trip back to Jr. High and have all your immigration questions answered!

Magic 8 Ball

I'm not liking my answers though....

Ask different questions. :)

Well it ended up costing me $440 to pay him for his services. However if I were to use a tax software and paid by the number of forms it would have been quite close to that. I had a multitude of forms, 1040, Schedule A, self employment, TWO state taxes explanation why I did not pay estimated taxes and that there was no penalties form, Captail gains and business profit etc. I had a very think package and my biggest fear was to scan all of it page by page on a flat bed scanned. Thankfully using a document feeder it only took a few minutes.

it might sound a lot of money but it appears that you got good advice that hopefully you can use in the future to file the taxes yourself. Our taxes are complicated and we were quoted minimum of $2000. Hubby showed me the booklets the IRS sends each year and they have got noticeably thicker and this year they didn't even send one. Also when he looked things up, tax accountants and the IRS interrupted the rules differently (many different ways) so there is no hope for the ordinary person. My advice - if you have to marry an American stay in one country and don't move.

I just feel it's wrong for people to ask for advice in these forums and then argue with members about what's wrong and what's right.

I can understand asking for an explanation as to why a particular route is recommended but all this arguing with the answers because someone doesn't want to do something seems wasted effort and members have been very articulate with their answers which I hope helps other readers.

It's insane, isn't it? I remember looking at that, but for previous years. We should all be happy there's no limit on IR-1/CR-1 visas.

Yup! We should be so thankful. looking at this list caused me to be even more patient...What if there were limits on CR1/IR-1? Geesh!

This is in regards to the same person stating they don't need their native documents to be translated into English. Seems there's a counter-reply she/he has to a lot of responses from members trying to help. I agree with you MCMLXXXII - "No one is going to try and convince you here on this forum, in the end you can do whatever you feel is right."

I just feel it's wrong for people to ask for advice in these forums and then argue with members about what's wrong and what's right.

im not arguing, i'm just frustrated as everyone else here is at various points in this long process. i'm going to many different avenues, and trying to figure out the right thing to do, i'm not trying to degrade anyone here or asking for anyone to change my mind, just asking questions and having a healthy flow of idea. if you feel that it is wrong for me to ask, please remember that this is a free forum for questions and support, which is what i'm doing, please don't read my posts if they offend you. Thank you everyone for your ideas. After all of your suggestions and the phone call i just made to an irs status specialist, i am amending my status. it will take 8-12 weeks, so hopefully, i will get it in time for the interview. if not the letter will have to work.

You can just bring a photocopy of your amended return and your W-2 (or send it to your husband if he is going to his interview on his own). That's as good as a transcript.

I thought K1 visa processing was mainly handled by the foreign embassy/consulate. The NVC does touch the case, but they don't schedule the interview date with the embassy like IR-1/CR-1 visas.

Assuming that is true I would imagine they schedule the interviews whenever they want since it would be internal to that embassy. Just my opinion though.

Actually, you're correct. I missed that. You're right, K1 applicants get their interviews scheduled by the embassy/consulate, not NVC. For them, NVC is just a middle man to forward their cases onto the embassy/consulate. K1s don't pay fees or send in any packages to NVC.

on the 1040X it says to put your husbands info if filing jointly, which we aren't...so i'm assuming i still write it and then put NRA under social security? i'm assuming this form isn't as die hard obsessive as all the NVC and USCIS forms :bonk::hehe:

Are you amending it to MFS? If so, then yes, you still have to put your husband's name and such. And then in the SSN field, just write out 'NRA'.
