I posted my medical exam experience in the thread above and at the time of posting i was very satisfied with my experience with Knightsbridge.

However i have just come back from my local doctors today because of this..

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/p480x480/426798_10150590411058427_647183426_9082296_986465064_n.jpg

Now i am not trying to put anybody off there medical exam because it was a very pleasant experience, but for a private practice doctors in London i found the brusing on my arm shocking! My Doctor told me that he could not believe that it was done there and even asked me how many blood tests they took! He told me that she must of pushed the needle in through my vein and out the otherside causing considerable damage and pain!

I am not here to slate Knightsbridge by any means as im sure it was a simple mistake to make but for the price of the medical and the reputation of the place i have to admit i am a little let down at such a result!

Did anybody else have this issue when visiting for their medical?

Could be you took off the bandage too soon. It happens once in a while. I have had many blood tests, and donated gallons of blood. Nothing to worry about. It will fade away in a week, or two.

She didnt put a bangage on it for me to take off but my doctor told me it was nothing to worry about and would go in a few weeks, we were just both shocked that it bruised so bad at such a highly spoken of place. My hubby even said hes seen army medics do a better job lol! But i guess its just one of them things..

Thats not from taking a bandage off unfortunately. Its from someone who pushed too hard and broke a vein. It will take some time to go away. Iv had this happen to myself from a careless phlebotomist before as well as seen people do this same thing to animals at work. It is very unpleasant just try not to bump it on anything, avoid touching it / rubbing it. Id also suggest if you use a purse or bag try and put it over your other shoulder / arm for a while.

Thank you for the advice! They were ment to do it all in my left arm (since im right handed) but for some reason did the flu shot and the blood test from my right arm instead.. which i guess worked out luckily for me as i carry my bag on my left shoulder anyway lol

That is interesting Inky- my husband gets that almost every time he has to give blood for whatever reason. Even when the same nurse took my blood a minute earlier without issues. I wonder if he has odd veins now!

I bruise like that every time I have a blood test. Some people just bruise more easily.

O/P it is just a bruise and should disappear without any additional treatment.

bruise (brooz)

n.

An injury to underlying tissues or bone in which the skin is unbroken, often characterized by ruptured blood vessels and discolorations; a contusion

It's just my opinion, but I think any clinic that takes a US government contract is not the poshest place on the block. All the civil surgeons in my area are in scary parts of the city. I find it interesting you were expecting an upscale place.

Sorry about your immigration battle scar. Wear it proudly. You're almost there. :)

You will find that a lot of nurses/doctors etc will take blood from your right arm because they are right-handed themselves. It is easier when you are right-handed to come at the vein from the inside (hollow) of your elbow, rather than coming at it from over the muscle of your forearm.

You could try a cold compress over the site to help with the inflammation.

Hope it doesn't give you too much trouble!!

My mum bruises real easy but I don't. I donate blood so I know what's "normal" for me. I have bruised once and I recall that particular donation hurt like buggery (at the site). She was far too rough with my arm. It will hurt a bit, yes it usually means they've done a bad job but the end result is the same (you've done the K1 medical) so as was said above, wear it as a proud reminder that you're almost there! :D

I've been through my share my having blood drawn from me, sometimes it looked like that. Mostly, when the vein was "rolling" and they didn't get it right the first time. It's not necessarily a nurse who can't do his/her job well(or a new one, they never seem to say "here's one who never poked anyone with a needle before, you'll be the first").

But it does happen.
