Hello my wife finally received the Visa along with the yellow package, from DHL today. We accidentally opened the yellow packet before we saw that the packet has to be opened by POE. I was thinking of just taping it shut with some scotch tape is this a bad idea?

I've see other posts on here about it but has this happened to anyone else who filed by DCF in Lima, Peru?

What advice would you give us? We're thinking to call/email the embassy tomorrow. Thanks

When that happens, you have to inform the consulate/embassy that you have mistakenly opened the yellow sealed packet. I believe the consulate will charge you extra for sending you a new sealed packet. Normally, it takes ten days for them to do that .

Yes I know it was a stupid mistake, but that part was covered up with a paper taped to the envelope. Hopefully it can save someone else from going through the same mistake.

You have to contact the Embassy where the interview was done. I have read at Embassy website that they would charge the IV Fee which is ( $404 USD ) to re-seal that package.

You should email the embassy right away. They are very quick to respond to problems with issued visas.

In my case, my wife obtained visa/passport from DHL. She then showed me the actual visa...then I noticed they had added an extra digit to her passport number on the visa page!

We contacted embassy at immigrant visa unit via email. They immediately apologized for the error and asked us to bring back the passport and packet. They would correct it in a day or two and we could pick up at embassy! No mas DHL!

So...email the embassy now. You're a K1 case (nonimmigrant visa section). The embassy NIVisa unit email is limaniv@state.gov .

Good luck and don't open anything again. ;) I hope you'll not have to pay anything more. Time wasted is enough penalty.

Sincerely,

Magnus[/size]
