One messed up system

This whole immigration system stinks. When our loved ones sponsored us they have to wait six to fifteen years or more to get a visa number, meanwhile each year they have a visa lottery giving away some 500.000 visa numbers and people waiting in line, working their buts off, paying taxes and have to be separated from their love ones. This is one messed up system. When they can prove a child relationship to a parent, or a brother and sister, they have to take time to prove some of those marriages. What make a marriage more immediate than a child or a sibling relation? Every year they raising fees, but the inhumane treatment gets worst! Who is seeking our interest? What about the availability of visa numbers for our love ones? We are a slave of the system.

I came in on a CR 1 visa. While in line at the US consulate in Montreal, Canada, there were two people behind me in line. Each were Canadians being sponsored by US relatives ie sisters and their cases took 10 years and 15 years respectively. I couldn't believe it and was blown away to hear how long it took. But there is a hierarchy in priority.

Such is the system to date. Although, there has been improvements in processing times over the last 3 years. What used to take 2 years for a CR 1 visa is now down to less than one year. In my case, 6.5 months.

Why are you so upset? You (*and others)could have played diversity lottery as well, and cut down on the waiting time. That is what I did even though my sister petitioned me a year and a half ago (wait time would have been 10 years had I not won the Diversity Lottery)

Also, there are 50.000 DL visas not as you wrote 500.000.

I don't think I could handle it if all 21 of my husbands siblings ( half of them with spouses) and all the nehews and nieces could come right away. I would certainly need a bigger house. As for the DV winner, they get a chance when before there was none but their nexr level of people are in the same line you are , in fact they are behind you because you are already here.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Because if every person could bring all of then relatives there would be millions and millions more immigrants every year to this country. Where would it end? Someone brings all 10 siblings right away and they bring their spouses and kids, etc. It just isn't feasible.

In American culture, adults typically do not live with their parents or siblings or adult children. Married adults typically DO live with their spouses and minor children and you'll note there isn't a wait for visas for them to come.

Coming to America is a priviledge. It's not a right. The fact that sibling petitions are allowed at all says to me the system is quite generous, not broken as you say. I can only imagine. Ring separated from your family for a long time is awful, but your family member made the choice to immigrate here. They did not have to.

Yes my family member made the choice of immigrating there; last time I check America welcome new immigrants. I just have a problem with how they manipulate immigrants and there lives. Yes it would be catastrophic to allow millions of immigrants migration yearly but yet still they collect fees and documents and put a sentence of wait time for visa availability while beneficiaries are aging.

It is not a custom to live with parents where I live. As a matter of fact I am well establish in my country with property and business and I do not intend to live with my parents continually, I will be on my own as soon as I get settled and if I want to I don't see where it is any ones business. There can be several factors why adults might have to live with there parents. 1. They may need care, 2. Unable to work because of disability, so there is a broad spectrum on the real facts why one would make that choice. In America it is not a custom but it does happen. I have traveled to several countries and there are still adults living with parents. Listen, I do not condone it but it is there. Anyways, that is not my issue, my issue is with wait time for familybased, these are the same people that are the fruit of spouses and siblings and they are all loved.

I bet most countries don't even allow siblings to come. I know the UK doesn't...and parents have to be over age 65 and dependent on you. The US really does welcome immigrants....but there are rules for EVERYONE to follow.

Not my intent to "seem" upset. I am just passionate about this whole ordeal and 500.000 is an error. Also DV lottery is not available in my country and several others. It is eligible in,

Quote:· SOUTH AMERICA, CENTRAL AMERICA, AND THE CARIBBEAN.

All countries in the region are eligible except Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Jamaica, and Mexico.

So give thanks and congrats

You have a problem because you are not getting what you want when you want it. Most frustration in life is caused by unrealistic expectations. If your parents need care, and cannot get it here, they can move back to be with you.

I don't know if that was in reply to me...but I was talking about the UK in regards to elderly parents trying to explain that the US actually has a VERY generous immigration program for extended family.

Oh, no, sorry. Should make sure to quote! It was in response to the OP saying sometimes children need to take care of their elderly parents and the wait time is unfair.
