The price of ticket is only one side. When I travel I was looking at price and how long it will take. I had good luck with Orbitz as you can choose departure and flight separately. The tickets in summer always expensive as well US increase tax that lead of increasing price as well.

Note: Use flexible dates +3/-3 days to see ticket prices. A co worker flew to Togo and he used United airlines direct site. (It was cheaper for him)

Not always cheapest but worth a look for comparison -

Expedia 2 stops (IAD & ORD) $2078 United/Con

1 stop (LHR) $2145 BA

Layover time may be an issue for you, maybe not.

Yes! I suggest you goto Kayak.com to find the flights, but I would then goto the actual airline and compare the prices. I found the arilines sites prices happen to be lower at times.

Good Luck!

Thanks.I tried Kayak too.i guess the time period is what is causing the fares to be so expensive.I was looking for flights from accra ghana to denver Colorado and the price ranges from $2,000 to $3,000 in June. And I thought July was peak season.LOL.

Try kayak.es, it is Spain based and brings other sites also in Europe. For reasons that I do not understand, the same flights in the same airlines and same days are lower price in a European site than a US site, especially in Summer (Northern hemisphere Summer). That said, make sure you know the rules of fees and international transactions.

Also, check a flight into Frankfurt and then direct Frankfurt-Denver in Lufthansa. I've used Frankfurt-Denver several times because of the great prices.

If you have frequent flyer miles check on that. I was able to book a Warsaw-London-Houston for $230 and 30k miles, one way last August (flight was early September) in British Airways (which is partner with American Airlines)

I have never been in such a situation but I would think it is logical for you to purchase a round-trip ticket (you may not be allowed into certain countries with a one-way ticket) because you are a "tourist" (technically). So, I would suggest you purchase a round-trip for yourself and puchase insurance on your ticket so that you can easily change your departure date and the purchase a one-way ticket for your fiancee for the same ailine (possibly change seats so you sit together :) on your way back to the United States. Good luck!

Ok thanks :)

I've used onetravel.com and airlineconsolidator.com onetravel was the cheapest and everything went smooth with both.

Hey, although I travel to Laos, I have found that it's actually cheaper for me to wait until about 1 month before I travel to look for a ticket. I've looked 6 months in advance and the prices ranged $3500-5000. Three weeks to one month the price was $1800-2000. So, it might be better if you wait and check around the 3 month mark and see if the prices have come down. Like I said, it works for me but I'm traveling to Laos and not your country. Good luck!

PS: I have just been quoted $1899 from ASAPtickets.com for January 26 as I am heading back to Laos to see my fiancee  I also use cheapOair.com as well. Again, I wish you the best

The last time I traveled back from The Ivory Coast, I went to Dakar, Senegal first and then from Dakar directly to the States. But that was because the Ivory Coast doesn't have direct flights to the States. I've only been on one British Airways flights (as part of a connecting flight from DME to LHR then to Washington D.C. - If you ever get the chance to work a British Airways flight into your budget/flight choices, do it! Their plane was the most comfortable out of the other 6 planes that I was on with Continental and United Airlines. The BA planes had wide leather seats in the coach sections. I was on a 5:30a.m. flight to LHR, and I had an entire row to myself. I slept laying down for 3 hours to LHR :)

Yeah. Select "nearby airports/cities" too. You will have options, usually in a grid form, to see when, where, and how much. If it doesn't help, you are only out a minute or two.

Statistically, buying on a Tuesday with 2 months before the flight gives you the cheapest flights. This gem of info has served me well, too. It is worth a look, but not set in stone.

Examples for me to Lima from the last hour:

Continental/United - nonstop flight

860$ Specific date 4 weeks from now

860$ With flexible dates and locations

I've seen them go as low as 720$ and as high as the sky, too.

Expedia

976$ - Specific dates

No other options

Vayama

962$ Specific dates

Webjet

934$ Specific dates

Price increased when looking at flexible nearby locations

Orbits

781$ Specific dates

Hotwire

962$ Specific dates (same flight as first choice)

Flexible searches not functioning right now

Kayak

932$ specific dates(On TACA--their website won't let you select flights from/to Houston, but other sites will let you. That's how I flew once last year.)

Flexible dates doesn't give a better price

I am thinking that my flights last year (3 flights with 2 destinations and a return) were 780$ on TACA. I had searched every day for 2 months and when the price dropped, I got it. The next week, it dropped a hundred dollars more. I was happy though.

The other direction changes the price drastically almost always:

Lima to Houston on Continental is the same price tonight.

About once a month, I spend part of an evening searching every site that I can find so I can spot a good deal when I see it. Normally, the prices are all over the map.

I have no idea why the prices are so similar tonight. Buying tickets is similar to lottery purchases, IMHO. Sometimes you get lucky.

Something I have noticed is that flights exiting the US are packed to the gills. Flights entering the US often have many empty seats. Apparently, this is because of the deportations that occur.
