Your assumption about a Social Security card is wrong and so is everything that follows.

Did I miss the post where the OP stated how the parents obtained social security cards? As far as I know you cannot get one if you are not here in a legal status.

As for the rest of what I wrote since it was my own opinion and not presented as a fact it is what it is and cannot be wrong. You don't need to agree with me but your opinion, which you are entitled to as well, does not make mine wrong.

Boiler is probably correct. Your assumption about obtaining an SSN is based on current practices - the OP's family came here a LONG time ago when things where very different. Brother H will confirm how easy it used to be to get an SSN, etc.

I don't understand the suggestions for you to move to a country you have not been back to since you were a small child.

Would you like usto explain it to you? Explain why we suggested to rather live as a Canadian citizen in Canada instead of the life of an Illegal alien in the shadows in the United States? Explain why life in Canada isn't really much different from life in the US, save for he weather and that only in certain US states? Explain what is really a non brainer?

Just say the word, and we will.

Happy New Year!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

You used to be able to get SSN's on a tourist visa, drivers licences too.

Wow!! Aren't you a condescending @#!%k!

Apparently you are the only one entitled to an opinion?

I'd tell you I wished you a Happy New Year too but I'm more honest than that!

As they say in Quebec..."C'est la vie!" Yeppers, life is tough. Do not make it tougher than it needs to be, go to where you can live freely, get educated, get jobs, get benefits of being a citizen.

Canada really is not as backwards as it is made out to be, they are just like here (except Tim Hortons) Almost NO Canadians try to live illegally in the USA. You are really a rarity in that regard.

There are lots of Tim Hortons in Maine!

Oh and hello from the east coast of New England!

It was not clear to me when the parents got thier SSN. I was not aware that someone could be in the US illegally and yet possess a SSN and pay taxes.

SSN = Social Security Number

Not work authorisation, not legal status etc.

Tax is something else, if you do not have a SSN then you apply for an ITIN, the IRS are not interested in status, just getting their money.

I could see that living without status in the US may be viewed as a better option than returning to Iraq, but he also has Canada as an option.

Looks like he has moved on from this site anyway.

Spare me the condescending lecture. It must be nice to belive you know so much more than everyone else in the world. Most people come on here for the reason I do to try to help people as people helped me when we began this journey.

I do not support people sneaking in and being here illegally but we are talking people not widgets. You make it so black and white with no gray area. I believe there must be some law or appeal the OP can at least attempt since he had no choice in the matter as he was brought here as a child. I never suggested the OP remain in the US as an illegal alien. However I do not view a child who was brought into the country by thier parents at 10 yrs old in the same light as an adult who knowingly enters the country with the intent to stay here illegally. The OP stated the parents came on on a visa and overstayed. If that is true then there may be a possibility of filing for some sort of change of status to remain here legally. I'm not an immigration attorney and I do not work for the US government so I really cannot say but I certainly think the OP should check it out before heading to Canada where they have not lived since 10 yrs old. The nasty comments basically telling the OP to get to Canada asap are not helpful or constructive so as I said to the OP I believe checking with a lawyer or USCIS is the best way to go.

There is no need to become so condescending, sarcastic and nasty just because not everyone agrees with your obnoxious opion. :innocent:

Your quite right about the age, which is why he gets a free pass essentially until he is 18 before he starts accruing illegal presence.

I think it has been mentioned that he can adjust through marriage to a USC. First find your USC.

That was not at all what I was thinking. I went on USCIS and a few other advice sites and it looked like there might be another option. Maybe not but I figure it is always worth asking the questions because at the point he is at he has nothing else to lose. Marrying someone to stay in my miond is not a viable option.

This is an Immigration web site, there are plenty of social media sites if that is what you are looking for.

It is the only one he has and it is an option many people choose.

Your response makes no sense. I am well aware what site I am on. I used to come on here for answers when we began the process and now I come on here to offer help/suggestions to other people who are trying to get thier visa. I dont understand why my reply to the OP has got you so angry that you feel the need to keep badgering me. I do not as a rule have any objection to your posts. All I am asking is to be treated with respect and not be talked down to as if you believe you are some know it all holier than though person.
