so im 17 and my boyfriend is 23. we met may 2009 online. so after that day we met we spoke like everyday on the phone and would see eachother everyday through web cam... our relationship grew so strong and i was starting to like him so much. but since wen i met him i was 15 i couldnt travel to Dominican rep to see him when i felt like it. so i told my mom about him like one year later. and i wanted to meet him already so i went this summer on july and spent 2 weeks with him. i could say it was truely love at first sight. so now im also going again on december to spend another 2 weeks with him. and we are getting engaged when i go. but when i come back to the U.s i wanna start the papers for the fiance visa. my question is do you think it will be harder for him to be approved because our age differences? and also anybody who recently did this process can tell me how long it takes now for the whole process? and an estimate of all the money they spent? and how did it go in the interview? some of the common questions they ask? just alot of advice please. i know im young but i love this guy! please help!

Your questions about how it went at interviews are best found in the appropriate regional forum since every Embassy is different.

For money spent, Read the Guides concerning the K-1 and then the Guides for AOS and then the Guides for ROC. There is a lot of money beyond just the K-1.

Age difference an issue, NO.

But your age and his age, YES. You will have to have more than love at first site evidence to prove to the consular officer that you have a real relationship. Who will be the financial sponsor?

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

Ok so this is just me playing the devils advocate.. Not any thing to be misconstrued as a judgement call.

Would there be any issue for their ages if they... you know had sex? Isn't there an age that is still considered a minor?

I'm just asking because they are young and financial support comes into play and the age to apply for the visa.

I would loved to know the answers to these questions out of curiosity.

just for the record, I was 15 when I got engaged to my first husband and 17 when we married. When things hit the toilet they were going to charge him with statutory rape .

That's all I'm asking about.

I believe that both have to be legal age to marry in the US and I don't think its 18. But I know theres a loop hole where if the parent signs off for the child under the age of 18 its ok but I don't know if this mean internatioanlly marriage?

The USC is 23 and she is 17. As Lilly mentioned I'm unsure about International Laws. Somehow, I don't think Filing a 129-F would be legal but, I'm unsure myself.

I know in the Sates you can but International Laws vary by Country.

So, hold onto those hormones for another year until reaching attainable age.

Update your timeline and Country and that would help. I know you have No timeline but list the Country.

I think 17 is considered a minor so I am doubting you can file an I-129F to petition for his visa.

Do some reading on the USCIS site your answers should be there.

Oh #######! I stand corrected. She is 17. Well, he's of legal age. I know States vary marrying age laws but this is a USCIS issue.

I Don't know the answer. I would GUESS its a rejection though but thats a guess. It don't make sense.

Financial support needs to be shown...do you have someone that would be able to do this for you....?

I believe it is legal mmm only because I've seen that persons have need for parental consent (maybe wrong) <--- but how about you spend some more time reading etc...getting the docs together dont necessarily date them as yet and hold off until you're 18....just a little though ( totally up to u) When do you turn 18?

Everything else should be pretty much a go from there

All the best,

:)

As long as OP is legal to be married and legally free to marry at the time of filing the petition it won't cause a denial. Before that 18th birthday I wouldn't even try to file anything even if the legal guardian agreed to sign papers. This is immigration, and the less hickups on the way, the better(IMO).

But I would suggest looking into a co-sponsor for the interview stage AND a joint sponsor later on for AOS already and not only worrying about the age difference. Play it safe by knowing if the two of you can't do this alone, and what is required, how much each step costs(filing petition - medical, travelling to medical and embassy, fees for visa interview, plane tickets, AOS etc).

Agreed and makes good sense. Wait until your 18. Then look at the picture again. Marridge is a huge responsibilty besides just supporting yourself. 9 out of 10 times I Guess your living at home. Correct.

Ah yes what you wrote is correct under 16 years of age and having sex is mandatory rape in this country and mine . You were a minor and it is against the law .
