For their final visit, I booked them at Best Western La Corona  @ $58 per night, feedback from my fiancee & kids was 100% positive.  You get what you pay for.  :)

Mine came out to about $45/night. I don't know if it makes a difference but I used booking.com and I will be staying there again in about 7 months. I haven't checked the price yet I will wait until May to book.

RIght now I'm getting $52/night for a couple random dates next month (Feb 6-8).  Once you know your dates, I would try those booking sites (& Priceline) daily.

Priceline often comes up with good rate busters, e.g. they cover the taxes.

Travelocity will often offer you a better deal if they notice you are leaving without reserving a room.  If that happens, stay on that screen and open up a different window or tab if you wish to continue researching their competition.

Booking.com has undercut their competitors' prices for me a couple times and once (Istanbul) came up with a good deal on an inexpensive boutique hotel that wasn't showing up on the other sites.

Just got back from a 4 month trip to the Philippines with my wife & daughter.  Stayed in Manila a few times while taking trips to Boracay, Palawan, Tagaytay, Subic Bay, etc.

Two of the Manila area hotels that we stayed in were really great and around $80/night.  Picasso in Makati and Winford.  Winford is a little far from the airport though (45min with traffic) but is very nice.

We stayed at Eustacia Suites one night in Pasay (close to airport).  I thought we were getting a bargain as it was 3.5 stars and only about $30/night on booking.com. I DO NOT recommend that one, it's pretty bad and should be one star.

$80 is pretty high for Manila area for a hotel, in my opinion.  Unless you had large family room and had like lots of people staying in the room.

What part of Palawan did you go to?

Underground river is located in Sabang. I would say it about 1 hour drive by van to underground river.  To date it the best beach I have found in Philippines. Not big but sandy and waves without coral or rocks.

I have always stayed in Sheridian hotel which has an excellent beach and hotel, but it seems as if it keeps getting more expensive as the years pass. It is truly the best hotel I have seen in Philippines. I think you are going to pay like $150 per night now of days, I used to be able to get the biggest room for $80.  The hotel is outstanding.

Right next door they have a hotel called Green Valley and its only 1200 peso per night, you only get a fan and they turn off the electricity at 10 or 11 pm. But you are on the beach so having an air con isn't needed. I did check and do some research and I would stay there.

I have been to PP and sabang area on 3 trips, I always plan on going to El Nido and or Coron.  I understand these are great places to visit as well and they are on Palawan.   They were long van rides from the airport.

I see just this week an airline is offering trips to El Nido from Davao City.

I have done Boraocay a few times, It don't do much for me. Palawan on the other hand is pretty cool. They have wild monkeys there and I have even seen Philippines squirrels there.

Hi!

My husband and I have stayed at Hyatt City of Dreams, room-wise, it's ok for me. We stayed at the Aqua suite with club lounge access (17,000 php++/ night). What makes this hotel a good choice is that the hotel is inside the a casino complex wherein there are lots of restaurants to choose from and there is some sort of amusement place (Dreamplay) for the kids.

I would prefer Solaire Resort over Hyatt though, you might want to consider that as an option for hotels around entertainment city.

The first photo is Solaire's Sky Tower suite, the other one is the suite room from Hyatt

Me and my wife will be going there in April with our 23 month old daughter for the most part we will be staying at her sister house in Manila and her parents house in Bohol. we are only staying at the Hyatt city of dreams for one day. One of the reason we chose the Hyatt is because of Dreamplay for the kids. My wife wanted to treat her nieces 15,12 and 8 year old  Also we can  take her sister and husband out to eat without having to travel and I will like to see the casino

The kids will definitely love Dreamplay, you should bring them to the pool too. As for the casino, best time to check it out is from 9pm-onwards as there will be live entertainment at the bar in the middle of the mass gaming floor, and try Hyatt Café (buffet) or Red Ginger (Asian Cuisine)
