Read up on Martin Luther. He wasn't someone who thought reading was meant only for priest and royalty. The Reformation had a significant impact on how science was perceived by the church.

Martin Luther (founder of my baptismal church) used to have farting bouts with Satan.

A significant impact does not mean it was the sole, causative impact your earlier post made it out to be.

Given the obviously known depositories of knowledge at the time, its odd we're even having this debate.

It's difficult to compete with a fantasy. Islam has not held back progress for Muslims and it is no one's fault but your own that you've embraced that idea.

Tying this to the topic, it's a stretch to attribute to Jesus to the racism, xenophobia and denial about its own history of exploitation that allows European extremists to believe that there is a justification for a White Christian Europe. Sounds to me as though religion is starting to affect the brains of separatists, but not in a good way.

Well then we should all take a road trip through the MENA countries shouldn't we. We can start in Ankara, work our way through Iraq and into Saudi Arabia and Yemen, and then move on over to Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Algeria and Morocco and see what there is to see. Not just the tourist area's for us...we should travel all over those countries. :)

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Europe was burning books at that time; Muslims were writing them.

I already have. Several times, in fact, I have lived, worked, studied in many of them. Have you? No.

If you have, well then why are we even having this discussion?

Because you haven't, yet purport to know about them.

Other than a few weeks in Turkey with the wife ..before we were married...no. The wife on the other hand has been to Egypt, Lebanon, and Turkey.

She said other than parts of Beirut...that it was all pretty much a ####### hole.

Well as always it's been good debating with you Sofiyya. Unlike others on here, you make post that are worth taking the time to read. Whether we are debating a subject that we both agree on or disagree on, it's always a pleasure. :)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
