Have you been to any inner cities? It is not a LACK of guns that is the problem (nor is it too strict gun laws)..

It is a lack of guns in the hands of GOOD people that causes crime. There are more good people than bad people. Anywhere, anytime. Allow ANY person to carry a gun and the bad guys are outnumbered, anywhere and anytime.

There is no lack of guns in Vermont, in the city or in the rural areas. There IS a lack of crime. If you are saying that the result of Vermont type gun laws (or lack thereof) would be anything BUT less crime, then you have to tell me WHY the people of another city cannot handle it better than people in Vermont.

I will offer, for an example, Barre, VT. If there is a deeper or wider shithole in this country than Barre, VT I would be surprised. They have no lack of drugs, drug dealers, prostitutes, you name it. But there is virtually no crime. You are perfectly safe to walk among the druggies and hookers in Barre. No one will bother you. Winooski VT is just as smelly a shithole as Barre but not as wide and deep. And Winnoski may be the only city in Vermont where white people are not a majority. You are safe to walk there any time day or night.

There is no crime in the good neighborhoods of Vermont and there is no crime in the bad neighborhoods (except drugs and prostitution which is not something I worry about when walking down the street, do you?) Petty theft? Maybe. I would not suggest leaving a purse on the front seat with the windows open in Barre or Winooski, granted. You can do that in most areas and have no problem. The later it is and the darker it is, the more desserted it is, the more likely you are to be carrying a gun, the crooks know this.

Richford is the drug import super highway, you can barely go a day and not see a big drug bust there. The place crawls with border patrol, state police and Sheriffs. No crime. How many shootouts are happening with drug dealers in Vermont? None. How many peace offiers killed with guns? None.

This is a simple, undeniable FACT. Vermont allows ANYone to carry a gun. Vermont has virtually no crime.

Guns are not the problem, gun laws are not the answer. Politicians need to find the real answer and address it with appropriate laws. The days of "gun control" are long gone.

I more or less agree. I usually carry a .45 I sometimes carry a .38 +P and even a .32 ACP when wearing very light clothes or going to the beach or something. For formal occasions I carry a 2.5" S&W M19 .357. Blued, engraved, ivory grips. Goes great with a tux.

In winter I may get the urge to take any number of guns for a walk, under a heavy coat one can carry just about anything.

Wisconsin is the other state that does not allow anyone to carry a gun for self defense. That will hopefully change this year leaving Illinois the only state where bad people can do this without fear of being killed by good people. If the good people of Wisconsin could defend themselves, this kind of thing simply will not happen

If they allow anyone to carry a gun, there crime rate will plummet and be right there with Vermont's

Wisconsin does allow conceal carry (since June).

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I had heard this. I like Alaska's approach better actually. The problem with Vermont is that I have no license to allow me reciprocity. Indiana and Kentucky will accept a Vermont drivers license as a temporary concealed carry permit. But the (true) liberals that run the Vermont legislature are so against the idea of any form of licensing that it will probably never happen here.

Great. When Gov. Doyle retired I knew they would. I don;t imagine they have issued any lisences yet, or very few. Statistically states see decreasing crime rates for about 5 years after initiating such laws.

I would still prefer to see the licensing dropped in favor of anyone being able to carry, but this is going the right direction.

Illinois is now the only state that does not have a concealed carry law and 7 others have "discretionary" concealed carry.

The libs in Anchorage tried to mess with the gun laws as far as residents of Anchorage go, but a court case and them getting sued fixed that one quick like.

I almost never watch TV. A few movies now and again only if Alla wants to watch one with me, otherwise I have no patience for it, no need for it and there are much better things to do with my time.

Doesn't Alaska have a pre-emption law which prevents cities and other localities from making such laws? Most states do.

If there is a more liberal bunch than Burlington in particular and Vermont in general I don't know where it exists. Bernie Sanders is a stated Socialist and always has been and he has been Mayor of Burlington, US Representative and now Senator and HE is against gun laws in Vermont. Howard Dean is pro-gun all the way. Our very liberal new Governor, Peter Shumlin, is a lifelong hunter and shooter and is promoting firearms training in Vermont public schools. He is every bit as much an outdoors person as Sarah Palin. Vermonters are far more likely to vote for the liberal that kills moose than the liberal that doesn't

A few years ago, some wacko proposed am ordinance in Burlington that you not be allowed to carry a chambered round in a firearm. #######!!!!!!!!! Before getting laughed right off the city council he was reminded that cities do not have that authority.

Anchorage got populated by a bunch of libs from California, Oregon, Washington, etc... and they think their way is the only way. They got a quick reminder in the courts that they are nothing more than an ink spot on a map and that their commie way of thinking doesn't jive with the rest of Alaska. Anchorage is nothing more than a cesspool of crime and communist lib yuppies.

The only turn the other cheek religion that came into this country in it's early days is Quaker, Mennonite, and Amish...which are all cut from the same branch.

Not sure what country you were raised in, but it's never been that way in the US. Read up on US history.

Pssst....Quaker, Amish, and Mennonite are all Christian...

communist lib yuppies.

I figured that would be obvious to all on here...but thanks anyways for pointing that out. btw they are non violent and against war, etc... they aren't your average run of the mill Christians.

Not hardly. Seattle is a prime example of that. They had to be sued not once, but twice for breaking a Federal Court Order to stop forced busing. Commie lib yuppies in Seattle thought they were above the law.
