If your attorney didn't explain the process and timelines to you upfront then you need to fire this guy and start going through the guides here. You really need to do this and then go over everything that has been done so far to make sure he actually filed the correct forms and supporting documents.

Mine took 11 months. Time lines vary.

K3 is effectively dead, so all very odd.

Read, read and read the guides because this is a process. First, unless you have a very difficult case you probably do not need a lawyer especially one that does not keep his clients informed.

Ok, on the CR-1/IR-1 track it goes:

USCIS - avg. about 5 months but it varies on a case to case basis, expect more time if you get an RFE

NVC - USCIS transfers the approved petitions to NVC, you will get a case number and once your case is with NVC you will have to file more papers. Some people have been in and out in 2 weeks, but if everything goes well (barring rfes again) you should be out within a month.

Embassy - this is when you will receive your appointment. You are not done yet though. NVC forwards your case to the embassy. You will have a medical check at a required hospital (In Turkey you will have to go to Istanbul or Ankara as they have the only hospitals where you are allowed to do you medical). The Turkish embassy seems to schedule their interviews 2 months in advance (at least on all of the NVC completion - interview cases I've seen) so don't expect to have a case completed at NVC and an interview in the same month, highly unlikely that will happen.

Every case is different, therefore there is no set time limit. The fastest way to go from submission to approval is DCF and even then it takes a few months. Our case from submission to interview will be 9 months. Expect to pay money for every part of the process. The entire process costs roughly between 1300k - 2000 usd (give or take) and I have noticed lawyers typically charge more to do what you would do and tend to be less diligent than the petitioner.

Read the guides. VJ has a ton of knowledge and if you get stuck on ANY question, there will be someone here willing to answer them.

It's a difficult process, we all have been there. Stay in contact with these forums, people will help and also know what you are going through.

USCIS is known as a 5 month process but lately the California service center has been approving NOA2 in 3-4 months.. Then it goes to the NVC or National Visa Center and once they complete the case all is forwarded to the Embassy in Turkey.. If your paperwork is good and you provide all the needed evidence it may go faster than what the norm is.. Me and the wife have a 10 hour difference and she is a Northern Neighbor of Turkey.. We still skype everyday... Stay busy with work, family and friends and the time will pass faster than you know...

Good Luck

Strictly speaking, the NVC schedules interviews based on what the US Embassy in Ankara has available. Based on what I have read from the State Department, the only IV post overseas that schedules interviews for spouse cases independent of the NVC is Guangzhou and that is non-EP cases.

Ah, Ryan H is right. When I called NVC to ask about when our interview would be scheduled they said they were waiting on the embassy to let them know and then they continued reading the script. My brain always thinks the embassy schedules it. :bonk: Oops, sorry OP, but you can still expect to wait about 2 months to get an interview once your case is complete with NVC.

Also if you want to get in and out of NVC faster start gathering the documents you will need for NVC ahead of time so you can try to get in and out. They will tell you it takes about 20 business days to review the documents, but once again if everything is clicking you can get out a bit sooner. We had an rfe and I think we were there a month and that is with the rfe. (We did get lucky and I happened to call them the day after an rfe was generated and email the "missing" document to them.)
