Ok, question..

Just got my NOA2 approval "sooner than expected", I sent out the I-129F in April... For some reason I was planning on it taking a lot longer seeing the processing times lately so I decided to have my Fiancee come stay with me in the U.S. again for the summer while we wait. She is here legally on a tourist Visa.

Now she isn't scheduled to go back home to her country until mid August.. Is there a deadline on getting this packet 3 returned to the embassy if she isn't even home for the next 6 weeks? Will they be trying to call her (because her phone won't work)? Or do they do everything by mail?

I can have her parents forward the packet to us here in the USA to fill out.. I know there's some things she will have to do in her country once she returns "police record" and such.. but not sure if it's ok to do the medical/immunization stuff in the USA while she is here???

thanks

Medical cannot be done in the US, it will have to be completed in her home country by an approved doctor

You can delay sending any documents back, however that will just delay her eventual return to the US

Good luck

Unless there are specific and completely different instructions for her Consulate in Thailand, she will be fine. The same thing happened to me (I'm the beneficiary and my future husband the USC), we got our NOA2 the week before my flight over to spend 2 months here in the US with him, thinking that it would take longer and that we would wait it out together.

I had my mother scan packet3 and email the scans to me just so I would be able to prepare for the interview while Im here, and I also emailed the consulate in Helsinki and told them about my situation.

If she gets her medical done while she's here in the US with you, make sure you go to a physician authorized to fill out the appropriate form (I forget the number, sorry :-( ).

Im sure they can give you advice at the Consulate if you email them

Good luck - and congrats on getting your NOA2 so soon!!

rpmanger, on the hard copy of your NOA2 it will say the following:

Notice Type: Approval Notice Valid from xx/xx/xxxx to xx/xx/xxxx

Consulate: BANGKOK

It should be good for 4 months, or at least mine was. So any time between the valid dates you can send in packet 3. If you still need more time you can always email the embassy and ask for them to extend the time.

Some people on a K-1 sometimes never receive packet 3. You can get it online here http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas/packet-3-forms-and-instructions.html. I remember Pui did get a letter in the mail with that link. You should be able to get some of stuff done in the US but not all. Look at packet 3 and see if you have any questions.

Hi! I had a qusetion for you. I am planning to get my fiancee here to US on Tourist visa from India, while we wiat for approval of petition.

At the time of interview of your fiancee, did she declare that you have filed for K-1 petition.. and what questiosn were asked at the time of interview?

Thanks,

No, she applied for a tourist visa about 10 months before we applied for the K1. She was just asked standard questions.. what are you planning to do in the USA etc.. She said just holiday, tourism. She was granted a 10 year tourist visa.

For those with questions about visiting during a k1.. we had no issues, I was worried about her being denied after her last visit but we were fine... and she has spent a lot of time here. She spent 4 months here over the winter and then went home only 2 months, now she is back in the USA for a couple months arriving after the NOA1 during the K1 process. No out of the ordinary questions asked this time. The first entry last year, she got additional screening for 2 hours because we were traveling together so she didn't have any money on her for her stay, and we didn't have a firm date ticket home for her (I have only standby travel passes because of my airline job) They warned her many times not to marry here and scared her pretty good. The second visit, we were more prepared, had a firm return ticket, and she carried money this time and the K1 forms if they asked, although they didn't ask anything about it. They only asked, back again so soon? how long were you here last time? long visits aren't they? When are you leaving? Enjoy your stay.. Chicago entry was definitely more friendly than LAX.

Andy is correct here but I would add some info. You could fill out & send in the P 3 info now to begin the process of getting the interview date. The most recent case I know of took 30 to 60 days. If the date wasnt acceptable you could request a different date at a later time.

Her police report will take a couple of weeks to obtain. The medical is done in one day & she will get the paper work that day before she leaves.

Ning, one thing I was never sure of was are you supposed to send the police report with packet 3 or can you give it when you have your interview? I was not sure so I had Pui make a copy of police report and send with packet 3 and bring the original to the interview.

First Congratulations!! It will probably take 4 weeks to leave the NVC right now anyways that what is seems it is taking right now. It may arrive back in Thailand the same time as your fiancee I would download all the forms you can and do them while she is with you and she can carry them back with her to turn in right away for faster interview time, Good luck

Get a copy of your packet, emailed to you. Check with the Embassy to see if they will accept us medical and get prepared finishing paperwork. My wife's completed medical in China, was over the 90 days so redid partial exam and TB test in US. US Dr combined her test, shot records and was submitted successfully. At least you had a good summer.
