Omitting 'Under God' From Pledge During U.S. Open Broadcast

I take it you play golf or do you just snooze through it on TV?

I saw the clip and it seemed like an edit job to include parts of it, much like you could hear parts of the Declaration of Independence voiced over on a clip without the entire script being played. It doesn't seem like anything intentional was done, but I suppose a listener at times will hear what they want to hear.

The whole pledge issue is just strange. That they chose to edit out that part is just really odd to me. At least "under God" was not the only words taken out. To me, it just wasn't smart; not really offensive.

I do play golf; but very badly. And golf on TV is definitely the best weekend nap time ever invented.

In my opinion its a whole lot of fluff over nothing. Many people are yearning for more escapes from focusing on important issues, and the have every right to show the rest of us how silly they can be.

In my opinion its a whole lot of fluff over nothing. Many people are yearning for more escapes from focusing on important issues, and the have every right to show the rest of us how silly they can be.

Indeed. May he rest in peace. In terms of impact on people's lives, I'd say his music positively influenced many more than the silly hissy fit over a few words edited out for probably insignificant reasons other than time and money. That's TV for you.

I agree that this isn't really a critical news story but it's a little naive to claim this was accidental. Of all the phrases in the pledge of allegiance that could have been left out, they omitted the only one that has ever really been controversial. It may not have been intentional at the highest levels, but the guy who did it knew what he was doing and did it on purpose.

Stupid people seem to draw my attention.

Sounds like two possibilities:

1. Not wanting to offend viewers that were also atheists.

2. Time constraints on the clip.

Given that not that many tennis or golf viewers are atheists, going by stereotype- of course, I'm going to go with option 2. How about you? No big deal.
