Ok, you are coming in on a K-1 visa based on your timeline info.

My understanding is that you had to submit a packet to someone when you came to the us. Where did you submit that packet Toronto or Sacramento?

i POE'd in toronto as well and put that on my AOS paperwork and did not have any issues receiving my greencard.

good luck.

Hey, thanks shorah for posting this. I am in the same situation as I flew from Winnipeg. I went through US customs and got my I-94 there. I never went through any kind of customs again nor did anyone else on my plane. So technically my POE would be Winnipeg International Airport and NOT Minneapolis. (FYI: I flew Minneapolis, Seattle, Fairbanks and ONLY talked to US customs in Winnipeg.)

There are several airports in Canada that have US customs in them, surely there are others on VJ who have entered the US through them as we have. I would like to hear from them.

thanks,

M

Adjusting from K-1

06/24/11 - mailed AOS/EAD/AP applications to Chicago Lockbox

06/29/11 - received email notification of arrival

08/05/11 - still no word on EAD - no RFE, no NOA... Wondering if this is something to worry about?!

08/11/11 - biometrics apt in Fairbanks (apt letter listed AOS only)

I don't know why, but I get chills whenever I see someone use a term like "POE" as a verb. Don't take it personally. It's just me. :innocent:

In my first post in this thread I provided a link to the CBP page that lists all of the airports around the world that have a US immigration preclearance station. Each of those preclearance stations is an official US Port Of Entry.

; I've never heard they do immigration in airports outside US territory.. Personally I thought it was Sacramento, since Toronto is Canadian territory. I guess I thought wrong & "learned something new".

Still odd, though

Yes, Toronto is in Canada, but like others have said, there is a US preclearance station at the airport which is actually US territory. Once you clear the customs there, you are in the US even though you haven't technically left Canada yet, and flights to Sacramento or anywhere else in the US are domestic.

My Immigration Journey:

K1: June 2010 - December 2010

AOS: April 2011 - June 2011

ROC: April 2013 - August 2013

Naturalization: March 2014 - August 2014

POE is Toronto.

There's confusion because a lot of people, from many other countries, are not used to the idea of having US Customs in airports outside of the USA.

I wonder why Canada has not done the same and put in Canadian Customs pre-clearance in USA airports. Most probably because there are too many major airports in the USA. Too expensive. And there may be less people coming from the USA to Canada than people coming from Canada to the USA.

The first ever stamp I received in my passport says: "HAM Admitted" (as in Hamilton, Bermuda.) My only other trip out of the US was to the Bahamas back in the days when no passports were required (and also a pre-clearance). It wasn't until my first trip to Colombia that I finally cleared immigration INSIDE the U.S. smile.gif

Actually, if I were a non-US citizen, I'd prefer pre-clearance, if available. At least if something goes wrong, you're still on your own turf and not sitting in some CBP holding room waiting for the next flight out.

Make that the 2nd stamp. Bermuda let me in first, also in Hamilton.laughing.gif

I came through Dublin, which is where I handed the packet, had my finger prints etc. On all my forms that asked I put New York via Dublin or New York via Dublin Pre Clearance. I have been approved for the I-131 and I-765, and not issues as of yet with I-485.
