Kathryn, domestic abuse is a serious matter and it warrants a thread of its own. Such discussions do not belong in this thread. There are many people on VJ who are victims of domestic abuse and I do not condone it, however, I also do not believe that anything can be gained by chastising a poster who merely recounted an incident. Any scorn will stifle free speech and is deleterious to any open or frank discussion of the issue. This is not the Domestic Violence thread.

This thread has always been a waste of bandwidth, where everything is discussed...now all of a sudden you want to be the arbiter of topics?

You say 'any scorn will stifle free speech' but look at how you responded to Rob's very sincere post.

So take your own advice and stop being deleterious to any open or frank discussion on the issue. No one speaking out against DV brought up this issue. Since you now admit to agreeing (despite the personalities of the people who feel this way), you should be chiming in, not fighting back.

Wow, never expected the thread to blow up like that!

My child was not in the room - he was in his bedroom and we were in the living room.

I will protect my son when things are done wrong to him.

You both need counseling. Physical violence is never the answer.

You thought a randomly-picked screen shot from a music video of a woman's boobs was being used as a weapon? What was I hitting them with, cleavage?

where does the line form?

Freedom's Story

By Richard Couto

In June, 2008 Freedom's Flight was rescued from a slaughter farm in Miami, FL. Foaled in Kentucky in 2005, there were high hopes that this fast, spirited, three year old Thoroughbred might be a Triple Crown winner, much like his illustrious grand-sires; Gallant Fox, Omaha, War Admiral and Seattle Slew. Shortly after his third birthday, Freedom ran his last race. Just out of the gate at Florida's Gulfstream Park, Freedom suffered a bad break in his front leg. Despite his injury, Freedom kept running—he came in third.

It was then that Freedom's downward spiral began. Since he could no longer run, his owner saw little value in keeping the disabled Thoroughbred and, to the best of our knowledge, gave him away. Mere days after his injury, Freedom was given to a "pony ride" company. In the heat of summer, with a broken leg, Freedom was forced to give rides to any passersby on the side of city streets. When he could no longer walk, Freedom was sold for $50 to a slaughter farm where he lived in filth and misery, awaiting his cruel fate. That was…until we rescued him.

Immediately after his rescue, veterinarians evaluated and diagnosed him as severely emaciated, suffering from Strangles (a serious equine disease), severe rain rot resulting in the loss of almost all his hair, bites, wounds, severe rashes, abscesses under his hooves, detoxing from steroids and a broken leg! The Florida Department of Agriculture immediately quarantined Freedom for five weeks to prevent the spread of the Strangles virus to other horses.

Today Freedom is free has been adopted into a loving home. Although he is still recovering, he is living with the dignity, care and love that all horses deserve.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
