Here's the thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/298267-interview-asked-to-come-back-tomorrow/page__p__4514755#entry4514755

My interview is in Haiti.. well, my fiance's interview.

Did you read that post clearly, the couple meet online, and their relationship was short before they filed for the petition. They were being questioned to ensure that their relationship was genuine. As, we all can speculate after the earthquake, everyone wanted to leave Haiti.

See their timeline, plus they only met in person once before they filed.

Met online 01/07/2010

I went to Dominican Republic 05/17/2010-05/26/2010

I-129f sent- 01/04/2011

Package received- 01/11/2011 signed by D. Sawyers

well my fiance is in haiti and sure he wants to leave, but its not a fraudulent relationship. Regardless of whether they met online, this couple had a year long relationship.. I met my fiance thirty days before I proposed. I've been back three times to see him in the past six months.

But what you are saying, is what i fear: that they will treat ALL relationships as fraudulent. in particular, requiring me to show up at the consulate at considerable time and expense to myself to ask me questions about my sex life. :bonk:

They met one time for one week, in a year long relationship. The consular knows that the cost to come to the DR, is not as costly or timely as a trip to Vietnam. The petitioner could have traveled to the DR more often if needed. There are many aspects of this relationship that led to the consular putting them thru this process.

A stokes interview is more time consuming and labour intensive than the usual consular process, though, so it's not a common practice. Come prepared with other good evidence and they won't have a reason to spend extra time on your case.

First, a K1 will not have a stokes interview, yes a CR1 might. So if you are a k1, just be prepare with the normal questions.

This is a grown up conversation!

So I have noticed that some fiance' visa applicants are asked about having sex with their partners and are asked to produce intimate photos. While some folks do have sex, others think its bad form to have sex before marriage. This doesn't seem to vary by nation but more perhaps by religious proclivity.

How can consular officers ask about or expect that those of us in Fiance' relationships will have had sex???

And honestly my sex life is none of their business, but I'll answer the questions if it gets my fiance here. I think it borders on cruel and unusual punishment.

Is this how your fiance is convincing you to make porn?

I have NEVER heard of that and NEVER heard of them asking about your sex life.

Depends on the consulate. Some are cosidered high fraud and DO assume the relationship is fraudulent. Others do not. I cannot comment on Haiti, maybe someone else can. I NEVER heard of even a high fraud consulate asking about sex.

In Algeria, they asked my fiance if we had a sexual relationship. They did a follow up interview with me over the telephone, and asked me the same thing. This was for a K1 fiance visa. They never asked about photos of this though. I think that asking for pictures of this definitely crosses the line. We did have pictures of us kissing, or being affectionate.

Good luck to you in your Journey!

Algeria IS a high fraud consulate. My guess is that they have no interest whatever in your personal life but it is the type of question that could have conflicting answers. Conflicting answers is a waving red flag of fraud. I have heard of interviews where they ask the applicants to draw a picture of their bedroom or their apartment or ask what side of the bed they sleep on. They don't care and it is not relevent to issuing a visa, the are checking for fraud.

The important thing is for both people to be honest. IF they ask about sex and you are not having sex, then say "No". There is no requirement to have sex before a visa is issued.

There was a woman on VJ a few months back, who implied she was Muslim, from the UK, who was asked sexual questions about her fiancee. She said she was offended, but was granted the K-1. We also did meet a couple from Canada on holiday in the Bahamas, both of Middle Eastern dissent, who were originally denied on a K-1, and later he came on spousal visa, who failed for odd questions like, which side of the bed does she sleep on, and what size shoes does she wear. It was deemed, originally, that they did not have enough of a relationship. They did not elaborate whether they had a sexual relationship beforehand, but I really didn't feel it my place to ask. I think most people these days do, but many people do not for religious and ethical reasons. I cannot give advice, but it seems an honest, concise answer is best. Besides, who wants to kiss in front of another person taking photos-- let alone have sex?

Thanks! I've never heard of a follow up phone interview. I am drafting my second letter of intent to marry for my fiance to bring to the interview and I'm going to put in explicit details of our first meeting (no dirty stuff!) and continued meetings, our continued intent to marry, and a request for them to call me with further questions because of the DOS travel warning in Haiti. How long of a letter do you think they will reasonably read at the interview?

The issue was not explicit photos of us doing the deed, rather even kissing photos seems like asking a bit much. I do have photos of us kissing, of us swimming together, etc. Phone records, stamped passport, you name it! I just want the interview to go well for my fiance. He's terrified as it is.

I appreciate the humor with which many of you approach this topic, however these issue do come up and have come up. As to them not asking sex questions of K1 visa applications, the link that I provided was one such interview. i didn't think they did "stokes" interviews except for CR1 and married folks who have more to prove when it comes to a marital relationship. We don't live together yet so I have no idea what side of the bed he sleeps on, nor the color of his toothbrush, etc.

They can't interrogate one man by himself so perhaps its better if I *don't* show up for the interview? Its hard to figure out how to play this game. I can't likely be there for the current interview date because I have very strong obligations with my work until mid-May and I naturally need to keep my job!

In the end if they delay the visa and make me travel there for a second interview I'll be mad! But of course i'll do it.. just another frustrating delay.

Thanks for all the input!

This article states,

"Stokes supervisors said that officers were trained to avoid questions about sex, but they cannot stop X-rated answers, like one from the citizen wife who was asked what she did for her spouse’s birthday and began recounting their night together in explicit detail. Some couples offer photographic evidence in the mistaken belief that the government requires proof of a marriage’s consummation.

“It’s not something a normal couple would do,” Ms. Guerra said. “They’re overcompensating.”"

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/13/nyregion/13fraud.html

This is USCIS, not a consulate, but I think the principle is the same. I think the quote from the Stokes Interviewer, Ms. Guerra, is telling. Good luck.
