I had an argument with my husband who is living in Jamaica and told him I wanted to end the relationship. I had left a suitcase filled with clothes there and during his rage he burned it.

What can I do since I am in the US?

Is there any law enforcment agency I can contact or am I just going to have to count it as a lost?

Absence makes the heart grow fonder . . .

Was there anything particularly valuable in the suitcase? I know it is enraging that he did this but for your sake, is it worth it to extend this craziness?

Good luck

Well it's up to you. You could file a police report though I don't know how to do it while out of the country.

They might tell you you abandoned it. They might just tell you to sue him for it. It's likely you'll just have to count it as a loss.

On a more personal note, I don't know if that sort of outburst is normal for him but what would he have done if you were there? It's a little bit scary. I understand maybe punching a wall or something else time-limited but he went to the effort of grabbing the suitcase, putting it somewhere where the flames wouldn't carry (I hope), getting stuff to set it on fire and watching it burn... that's a sustained angry outburst where the idea he was destroying your stuff didn't bother him.. it's very scary.

Contact the JP, and see what they say. Count it as a lost.
