Hello Journey men and women. Soon it will be time for my Asawa's medical exam at ST. Lukes in Manila and my fiancee is going crazy about this as well as other ladies waiting for the exam. Most in particular her "TATTOOS" she has 4 of them. Matching ones. one on each fore arm, stars. Then she has one on her side shoulder a ,gothic-like tribal heart, and a small one on the side of her calf, a fish. my question is will this be a problem?? A few people here on VJ stated that they had no problem and were approved, but they only had one or 2 of them but she is worrying about them and I am now also after she told me how they are viewed in the PINAS but she went through a rockstar fashion phase in her youth and had these cute tattoos done. Any advice is welcomed and appreciated. Pray for our success as I pray for everyone here on VISA JOURNEY.

Tattoos are fine' I have 7 (my arms are covered in 2 big tattoos each, I have a ring of penguins on my leg, and two around my ankles), and it wasn't even mentioned at the medical.

PS: that font is very difficult to read.

The medical is more for things like tuberculosis and aids and other things you can give to someone else that can kill them or spread. Not tattoos. I also have tattoos and wasnt even asked about them at the medical.

Only time tattoos are considered is if they are gang related. So unless she is in a 'gothic-like tribal heart' gang, I'm sure she's fine

Good lcuk

I didnt say they were. People with TB often arent either, they are treated for it.

I was stating what they look for at the medical.

defs69,

Please do change the font, thanks.

re: Tattoos

Did any of the people responding to your post have their medical examination in the Philippines, at St. Luke's Medical Center Extension Clinic?

If not, I would watch for someone that has.

I've lived in the Philippines for 3 years now and anyone that knows the Philippines, knows the Philippines has it's own way of doing things.

What might not be a problem in other countries, might be a problem in the Philippines and visa versa.

Logically, they are all right, a tattoo, should not be an issue, but they are an issue for some people.

And unfortunately, for all of us, that is what we are dealing with "people" and so many steps in our VJ is at the discretion of these "people".

I just hope the Consular Officer we get is not having a "bad" day. LOL

Don't worry about it, there isn't a damn thing you can do to change it, just tell her to hold her head high, be proud and positive and let her smile clear the path in front of her.

Good luck and God bless you both.

Just for the record, they don't even look for HIV in the medical anymore - this changed a year ago. I only chime in to say this to ease the anxiety of anyone with HIV who might be reading VJ.

They checked for it when I had my medical in 2009. I asked specifically what they were looking for in the blood tests and told me they still test for aids.

i could be wrong but i thought AIDS would infact be a problem for immigration, however HIV would not as long as the intending immigrant was on proper medication

I just looked it up and for CANADIAN immigration only they dont do the HIV testing. All others have HIV testing done on the blood tests still.

So best not to mix that up with other countrys.

This is not true. As of 1/4/2010, HIV testing is no longer done as part of the medical and HIV is not a basis for denial of a visa or AOS application. Since this is relatively new, it is understanding that it confuses people who were tested for HIV as part of the process only a year ago. I don't wish to hijack this thread, but I do want accurate information to be available to people with HIV.

Here is the relevant information:

Effective January 4, 2010, visa applicants required to receive medical examinations will not be tested for HIV, and HIV-positive visa applicants will not be found ineligible for visas under Section 212(a)(1)(A)(i) of the INA and will not need waivers from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) prior to being issued visas, if otherwise qualified.

...wow from tattoos to HIV/AIDS ....well, just from my experience having my medical exam just few months ago in the US - there is no more HIV test done, if you look at the form, you won't see it anywhere on it neither. The only thing they do draw your blood for is Syphilis.

Good luck on you and your fiance's journey :)
