I am leaving for Morocco tomorrow to bring my fiance back to the U.S. on Nov. 30th. Today, he was visiting a friend that works at the Embassy, his friend told him that he may not be able to leave Morocco on a booked/paid for by me a "ONE WAY" ticket. He said that they do not consider a K1 a permanent visa and he would have to have bought a round trip ticket. I find this to be just impossible as there many do not book round trip tickets as they would lose that money and it's not cheap.

Is there any truth to this????? Do I need to re-purchase another ticket tonight for him to return to Morocco? OMG the night before I leave and I get this bit of information.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You got bad information. K1 visa holders travel on one-way tickets quite frequently.

what a joke.k-1 is a " one way" visa so to speak, why would anyone buy a round ticket?

because usually its' cheaper. It was for me and several other people I know that did this move.

That said it's most definitely not NEEDED. A k1 is a non-immigrant visa but it's expected that you will stay and adjust status. I was never questioned about when my return trip was.

If this happens then it's because of bureaucratic bungling at the airline, and not because of any US immigration policy. A K1 is a non-immigrant visa, and some airlines have a strict policy that anyone carrying a non-immigrant visa needs to have a return ticket. This is because the airline is obligated to bring the passenger back to the point of departure if they are refused admission to the US, so they have a compelling reason to try to determine if the passenger has everything they need to be admitted. Someone who presents themselves at a US port of entry carrying a non-immigrant visa, and without a return ticket, has a reasonable chance of being denied entry because of suspected immigrant intent. However, most airlines understand that a K1 visa is a non-immigrant visa that specifically allows for immigrant intent, and that the visa holder will probably be staying in the US indefinitely.

If the airline gives you any trouble about getting a boarding pass then insist on speaking with a supervisor. If there's a problem then it's entirely with the airline - not US immigration.

In many cases round trip tickets are less expensive. Caution though, the traveler must use the first leg of a round trip ticket or the whole ticket gets cancelled. Don't ever plan to just use the return leg of the ticket. Yes, people make this mistake. For example, if you buy through Orbitz, the they only sell tickets where the departure leg originates in the USA. Only people IN the USA already can use those tickets.

Hello, I purchased our airline ticket through Royal Air which is the main airline in and out of Morocco via telephone weeks ago. Gosh, i had no clue this could be an issue as I have never read anything about this being an issue or else I would have done a round trip ticket as it would have been cheaper.

Well great! Now i will not rest in peace or even have a chance of enjoying myself now in Morocco thinking once we get to the US we are gonna be denied POE.

Ok, let me see if i can help you... I kind of experienced this in costa Rica -- My fiance was coming here on a one way ticket on jet blue with me. While looking at our visa, the person looked at it and was questioning the same, about a return trip ticket. He was NOT knowledgable for the K1 visa -- he called his superior over, she looked at the passport, matched the face to my fiance, and said "im sorry for the inconvience, you two have a nice flight and good luck" -- in other words, he didnt know what he was doing. When they look at the visas, 99 out of 100 are for tourism and students, so they HAVE TO HAVE a return ticket. The person who gave you the information was incorrect. The visa is intended with the purpose of getting married here.... So just enjoy your nice long holiday weekend, grab a drink now, and take a few deep breaths, get on skype and say your I-Love-you's and enjoy!!!!!

You will not be denied for that reason. Sleep well, enjoy your trip.

Yes that is what is friend said that the people at the airport when we check in do not understand what K1's visa are for and this is the issue that we may run into. I appreciate your words, thank you so much.
