I was under the impression that Australia had faster internet service than the US but that is not the case. South Korea leads the pack, along with Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Sweden etc. I was surprised to see so many Eastern block countries near the top of the list.

I swear that I read somewhere on this forum that Aus had much better internet service than the US, but that doesn't seem to be the truth. Here is another tidbit or two of information.

Not that the US is leading the way, but most of the countries ahead of us are much less populous.

First of all, stop the racial stereotyping. Second of all, stop the baiting. Thank you.

I thought Aussies moved here for better health care. Who knew we have better internet also? Better beer too!

I.m not surprised. Ukrainians are nuts for anything electronic. They all have more than one cell phone and there never was a time when landlines outnumbered cell phones. They do not have the ACCESS to the internet we do...yet, but it is improving rapidly. On the other hand, pub;ic access to the internet is excellent, there are internet clubs and cafes everywhere, internet available in nearly any public place, etc. Because of the Soviet Union, they are not bogged down in old technologies, they gained their freedom just in time to take advantage of all the modern technology

Actually Spooky you're right you DID read Australia will HAVE better internet.. not "does already". We're about to start the new government installs.

http://www.cebit.com.au/news/technology/internet-upgrade-on-May-5-will-prevent-hackers doesn't really explain the speed. I'm the first to admit that Australian internet isn't the best (currently WAY better than Iowa though :S) but health care is significantly better.

As for beer, I don't drink so I'll take your word for it Gary. As for chocolate though... and "candy" we rule all. Bloody obsession with artificial flavourings in America.. and high fructose corn syrup...

Anywho :ot2: yes, internet in SOME places in America is much better than Australia. Internet in Houston rocks :)

American "chocolate" is rather like flavoured mud with added gravel pieces.

You want chocolate? Go to Belgium. ('cos there aren't that many other reasons to go there  )

Try Lake Champlain Chocolate. We export it to Belgians.

Now THAT made me laugh.

Both countries have beer that's barely above gnat's pee

Actually I do not drink beer, so I would have NO CLUE. I did once, June 19, 1985, drink a WHOLE bottle of beer at one time. It was Carona beer. I was in Arizona, it was truly "come to Jesus" HOT and the beer was really cold and it was all they had to offer. I drank it. I do not recall if it tasted good or not. It was cold.

But about all I see of Australia are beer commercials that try to teach us to "speak Australian" (one wonders why they just don't learn to speak English like FSU girls) and kanagaroos live there. What else they contribute I have no clue. I do not think they make chocolate there. probably too hi-tech.
