I keep reading and hearing such a bad reviews about miamis Airport that I am really freaking out... so just wanted to ask for those who have gone through the miami POE... is it really that bad?... what should i expect?... is there any reason why someone could be sent back home? I heard Weekends are really busy so I picked a monday and I will be getting there around 10 pm... do u think it will be too busy? Ayudaaa

Hi GJen,

You'll be going through customs in your native country, not in Miami. When you get to Miami, you're free to go. Whether you're from China, Congo or Holland, you cross customs in the country of departure, not in the U.S per say.

Don't worry about it, POEing is not that stressful, and if you're at that point, things will be just fine and dandy!

Good luck!

I am not quite sure what Vero and Chris mean on no customs when you enter POE. That you go through customs when you leave your country? I am confused as to that statement. When I left Australia I did not go through customs just baggage check oh and had my passport stamped with the date for me to remember the day I left as the Officer there was really nice. When I got to LA, of course we had to go through customs and be finger printed and hand over my sealed envelope. But it's no big deal GJen trust me you are arriving totally legal and yeah good idea not to arrive on weekend busiest time ever at all airports and is cheaper through the week lol

Good luck and best wishes for the future

..What? every time I return to the US (I am USC) I fill out the customs declaration, go through customs, passport looked at etc.

When I go to a foreign country, I fill out the customs declaration, go through customs, have my visa stamped etc.

In my experience ANYONE entering the US goes through customs, has their passport/visa examined and stamped if a visa....

Huh?

I can think of a few places where you pre-clear Customs in the country of departure - Bahamas and Bermuda are two that I've gone through - but I most certainly go through Immigration and Customs in the US every time I fly back from Colombia.

That said, GJen, relax... You'll be just fine.

Vero and Chris is referring to some airports which have pre-clearance centres where you go through Customs before you board the plane to the US. He/She has mistakenly assumed that all countries/airports have this where, in fact, it is just a few.

Yes this is another example of people giving misinformation in the forums.

That said VJ is still the best, just tedious at times weeding through everything.

Hi,

My daughter and I went through Miami POE back in 2008. We also came from Venezuela and what I can tell you is that it was harder to leave from Venezuela than entering to the US. From the beginning to the end everything was smooth. IO took the brown envelope and our passports then he took us to a room which was empty, luckily for us since we arrived on a weekend at 9 am. We waited about 30 min. and then other IO called us and gave us the passports with I-94 form staple on them. Not a single question from them. Both IO were Spanish speakers (Cuban and Boricua background) very friendly and kind. We stayed a couple days in Miami enjoying the beautiful beaches before to come up to the windy and cold Chicago  . Relax; you’re going to be fine. Have a great and save trip and welcome to the US!
