Barney Frank: Israeli Actions Make Me "Ashamed" As a Jew

Boston Globe: U.S. Rep. Barney Frank had harsh words yesterday for the Israeli Navy after a bloody raid on a pro-Palestinian flotilla outside of Gaza, describing nine activists killed in the conflict as "innocent" and calling for an independent inquiry into the showdown.

Frank, in a wide-ranging interview with the Herald, went on to say that "as a Jew" Israeli treatment of Arabs around some of the West Bank settlements makes me ashamed that there would be Jews that would engage in that kind of victimization of a minority.

Frank has shamelessly victimized the American people via his votes and chairmanship in Congress for years. I loved how a college kid asked him if he'd take any responsibility for the recent economic problems he helped spawn. Frank slammed the student who turned out a member of the College Democrats.

Minority? I thought Palestinians were the majority in the West Bank and Gaza or is he referring to 74 million Turks vs. 7 million Israelis? Barney has never neen good with numbers or finances.

The only way BF has ever been Jewish is in name (heck, I didn't know until I saw this thread--in theory I could have gotten that info from Wickedpedia, but that also lists proclaimed atheists as members of religions)

Evidentially, all you have to do is have the correct mitochondrial DNA. (Born of a Jewish mother). And, you are correct, among the Hebrew descendants are many atheists and agnostics, some rather prominent ones as well. What do you expect? Yahweh has been an absentee landlord. Even since Moses destroyed the tablets, He has not been around much, mostly sending angels, or the Holy Spirit. But, He did send His Son once. That worked out good for the Romans, but not so good for the Judeans in Masada.

How many of you have worked with Barney Frank and his staff during this recent crisis? Or are you all armchair critics who purport to know what is going on behind the scenes? I have had more than a bit to do with the House Financial Services Committee in the past year or so in lobbying for real and meaningful reform to the shambles that is the financial services industry in this country, and I have found Frank's office to be more than willing to listen to and incorporate criticism from major institutional investors. Is the man perfect, above reproach? Hardly. But to dismiss him out of hand for being gay and insufficiently Jewish and therefore deserving of contempt is to highlight your own prejudices.
