hello all,

and please don't erase my topic becasue this is not the typical repeat and it's not answered in the faq. I heard

there is a new fee in effect for this category of visa... is this true?

because i know it was $131 before but now my fiancee has received an interview letter from Islamabad embassy

and it's asking for additional $400 for visa processing fee. I thought this was only for immigrant visas

Anybody else seen this yet?

so please let us know so i can advice as what to take... reaching the embassy is near hopeless as the phone is busy always

and email replies are not coming back even thought i put our case number in the subject line.

thanks.

We just got a K1 Visa Appointment Confirmation email yesterday from Manila embassy. They said fee was $131, I imagine since it's a US Dept of State, cross the board fee, then it will hit all embassies at the same time when DoS implements. Which I hope they wait just a lil bit longer...

Assuming $131 is changed to $400 now. I hope that is a mistake from the embassy side. Otherwise, it is what it is.

Yes. there is a new fee. It's been discussed in length in various threads since the proposition was announced late last year sometime.

The K1 while called a "non-immigrant" visa is actually an immigrant visa given you have the ability to AOS (it's like a transit visa between non-imm and imm). SO yes, you would need to pay the immigrant fee which WAS US$131. Some embassies have already started charging the new US$350 fee.

I hear you on the "but ours is $400".. the fee is CONVERTED to the local currency of where the visa is being applied for. When i paid MY $131 fee the US to Aussie dollar was bad so it cost me $176 Australian (or something like that) and now people pay closer to $140-150 in Aus.

So it looks like your/her embassy has implemented the change and the new fee is payable. Nothing you can do except pay the fee.

Sorry.

The proposed fee was $350 and AFAIK is not yet in effect, so the $400 may in fact be the IV fee...

YMMV

Probably a misinterpretation. The notice may refer to the immigrant visa fee in some way but it is not requesting that the K1 applicant actually pay that fee. Read the notice again carefully.
