Please help me with this problem.

I have a K-3 visa and I applied for Adjustment of status as soon as I entered the States. My appointment is set to April-16 2010 and I have planned a trip out of the country at that time of the year.

so my questions are:

-Would I be able to reschedule the appointment to an earlier or later date with out having to restart the whole process again ?

-since I have a K-3 visa will I have problems with re-entering the states if I did the interview or if I rescheduled it after I come back to the States?

Life is all about setting priorities. Did you ever consider that the AOS interview is an important event in your life, perhaps more important than your travel plans? How about rescheduling your travel plans instead of the interview appointment.

Just food for thought . . .

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

It is extremely difficult to reschedule an AOS appointment - generally, unless it is a matter of life or death or you are in the hospital, they expect you to change your other plans rather than change the AOS appointment. There have been individuals who have tried to reschedule due to other commitments and were told they had to show up or would be denied, or had applied to reschedule but the original appointment was not cancelled as they had thought/were told, and they were then denied due to failure to show up at the interview. They needed to apply to re-open their files and then wait a number of months before they received another interview. Rescheduling biometrics is easy; rescheduling actual interviews is extremely difficult and should try to be avoided at all costs.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I suppose it depends on how you look at it, but I would suggest postponing your trip, not your AOS appointment...

I have a different perspective. I am U.S. citizen and applying for a spousal adjustment for my wife. We got a request for an I-485 interview for a date at which we would be out of the country. I read this site, and many others, and was really worried we'd have to cancel our trip to make the appointment. So I set up an INFOPASS appointment at the local UCIS. Without any hassle at all, the women said she would reschedule me. She also gave me evidence that she had put in a request for rescheduling. (And they do the rescheduling there at that office.) She told me not to be anxious, and that they know that "people have a life" and that people sometimes need to reschedule.

I imagine this may not be everyone's experience. My local office does not seem very busy, and may be more accomodating than some. But it can't hurt to go in and ask.

It's great that you were told this but did you read Kathryns reply? The important part is this:

"There have been individuals who ... applied to reschedule but the original appointment was not cancelled as they had thought/were told, and they were then denied due to failure to show up at the interview. They needed to apply to re-open their files and then wait a number of months before they received another interview. Rescheduling biometrics is easy; rescheduling actual interviews is extremely difficult and should try to be avoided at all costs."

Sometimes rescheduling is fine, but there have been SEVERVAL instances where people have had their appointments rescheduled ... but the original interview was not cancelled (as Kathryn said) and they were denied. Sure it ended up fine in the end but it was more stress than i think they thought it would be.

Again as stated. AOS is FAR more important than a holiday.
