Attending visa interview before embassy receives medical exam results?

Hello -

I'm re-asking a question asked by jenanddan2010 here, because they did not get an answer and we have the same question.

There seems to be conflicting evidence on what happens if the embassy has not received your medical information before the interview.

1. Evidence that it doesn't matter: Packet 4 states that "You must undergo the medical examination or make a booking prior to the interview. If you fail to do so, the interview will be canceled and you will be required to reschedule for a later day."

2. Evidence that it doesn't matter: http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/...cal_letter.pdf: "What if I cannot secure a medical appointment before the visa interview takes place?

Don’t worry. You should still keep the visa appointment and, once the medical has been completed, the results will be delivered directly to the Embassy. When they have been received, the Embassy will contact you concerning the next steps that you are required to take."

3. Evidence that it does matter: http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/forms/IV019.pdf: Medical Examination

Your medical results will be sent directly to the Embassy by Knightsbridge Doctors and will take approximately 5 workdays from the date of the examination to be received. If you have not yet arranged an appointment for your medical examination, you should do so immediately as the medical examination must take place before the visa interview. Please visit http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/iv/medexam_K.html for further information. You will require your case number in order to book the medical examination. If you attend the Embassy without having attended the medical examination, the interview will be canceled and you will be required to reschedule for a later date.

My fiance lives in Northern Ireland and would like to fly to London only once. Because our Packet 4 states that just being "booked" is enough, we're inclined to believe that. Maybe we're over-thinking this - is there any actual evidence that the embassy will turn you away if they don't have your medical?

Thank you so much,

Rito

I'm pretty sure that as long as the medical is booked, then the interview will take place. I only wanted to travel to London once too, and do the medical and interview on the same day, but then thought it would speed things up if i had the medical first, so the results were at the embassy when I had the interview.

I have my medical next week and the interview the week after.

I also thought that if I did do them both on the same day, would I have to go back to get the results and get the visa..?

There seems to be more evidence that you can have the interview before the medical, so I would assume that this is correct.

Hopefully someone knows for sure and can let us know.

The rule that the medical has to be done before the interview only came in a few months ago, so be very careful how old posting on the subject are when assessing that information.

It seems that as long as you have had the medical even if the results haven't reached the Embassy (that takes 2-3 working days) the interview can take place. I cannot recall seeing any postings from people who have recently booked the medical that it is after the interview date, so assume unless some who has done so says it is acceptable it isn't. Solution is once you have the interview date arrange for the medical the day before. The doctors office is very accommodating if it is explained to them.

You don't physically collect the results or the visa. If you were approved pending the medical result then as soon as the medical is received by the embassy they would send you the visa. The doctor at Knightsbridge makes it very clear whether you have passed or not; although it will be subject to the blood work and inspecting the x-ray.

Not trying to sound like a smart azz, but have you contacted the Consular section of the London Embassy to ask the question directly?

If the requirements/expectations for the medical exam have changed recently as Lansbury stated, then your most reliable info may be from the Embassy.

Best of luck.

I'd like to know what happened here ...

We are sending my daughter over from Belfast to London for her medical and interview and don't want her to have to go twice.

Can we get her in the medical on the Monday and then her go to her interview on the Tuesday?

this is exactly what we did, albeit a long time ago......it takes a few days for the results to get to the embassy so it would delay issuing the visa (it took us 10 days compared to the normal 48 hours) but otherwise not a problem

Due to the travel. We did our Medical one day and Visa interview the next.

You will be given a receipt by the Medical people to prove you have been there.

The Embassy didnt ask to see our receipt although i did offer it when they mentioned no med results yet at our interview.

I just explained, that it was easier to do this in one trip and the Consular officer just smiled and said no problem. That was at the back end of July. So i dont know if anything has changed since then. My advice would be when you book your Medical just ask them. They seemed pretty savvy on how things currently are with the Embassy.

Sorry I know that this is an old post, but Twinkles, I just read in your Signature that it took almost 3 months after your interview for them to send you your passport back??

Oh dont let that panic you. Medical case is a very complicated one. I have a rare condition and other health conditions. The Visa Dr had never come across before is all that happened, my Son also has his own fair share of health related issues.

Our medicals were done in July, we were approved our Visas pending medical results arriving at the Embassy.

Due to our complicated Med history, it was fair, i believe for the Visa Dr to issue us with several letters to be passed to our Gp.

She wanted some further information and further tests doing.

Due to this, until the Visa Dr was satisfied our medical results were not sent to the Embassy in the normal time frame of a few days.

It was actually several months.

Down side was that the day after our Medicals we had our Embassy interview. As per Embassy routine our passports were taken and held by them until the visas were printed. They could not print our visas until they obtained our medical results.

So yea, they had a hold of our passports at the Embassy for a good few months.

Not to worry though, when we did finally get our passports back they did have 6 months to expire. Expire in April this year.

Im actually emigrating next week and my Son is now going to follow me on. Change of plans in regard to him.

The courier called again today to collect his brown envelope and passport back. He is now going to be reissued with a new visa, with new expiry date.

The delay actually did us a big favor. By sheer flook a few abnormalities were found that needed treatment and further tests. For one i was offered an operation in January, but due to the delay it would cause (another 3 months) i have declined and just went for medication.

Im feeling oh so much better now and even got a 5 day, day patient infusion boost (leaving present) off my specialist.

I cant speak highly enough of how our case has been handled. The Medical Dr was fantastic. The London Embassy extremely helpful and understanding.

My NHS specialist has been lovely (tbh i think he wants a free hotel offer when he visits us in America)

Now Its finally time to go grab the guy, that has waited oh so patiently for me by the legs <3

Please dont let my time line dishearten you. Alot of good came out of it.

Wow that sounds like you have had quite the journey behind you! I'm glad everything worked out for you and your son, I hope your medical condition will get better and wish you a fantastic life in the States!

does anyone have updated information on this? We are in a similar situation and getting different answer from different people. Did anyone go to their visa interview without embassy receiving the medical results? Or should we change our visa interview date? Any input would really help us and be appreciative. Thank you!

This thread is very old.  Yes you should still attend your visa interview.  Once the medical results are received by the embassy they will make a decision on your case.   If you have any further questions please start a new topic.
