$7,000 reward offered in horse attack

A former horse trainer has been the latest to offer a reward in an arrow attack on a mare in Fayette County.

A vet treated 8-year-old Misty after someone shot the mare with arrows.

Larry Harvey of Kennesaw said he is offering $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

His reward brings the total to $7,000 for any information leading to an arrest and conviction of whomever shot arrows at an 8-year-old mare in Brooks.

The horse is now recovering after surgery to remove the three arrows -- one that pierced the middle of its spine, an area below its eye and one that traveled through its neck, Fayette sheriff's investigator Brent Rowan said.

The nonprofit Georgia Outdoor Network is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction, and the Atlanta Humane Society announced Monday that it was adding $5,000 to the reward.

Rowan said someone was driving along Banks Town Road in Brooks on Sunday and spotted the horse with arrows sticking out of its body. Sheriff's deputies and a veterinarian responded, Rowan said.

The vet spent four hours working on Misty, and told WSB-TV the mare could still suffer from bone damage.

Neighbor Rachel Byrd told WSB she was driving by and spotted Misty standing on her owner's farm. She slowed down and noticed the arrows sticking out of her.

"She was scared to death. She wouldn't let us catch her. You could tell in her eyes that she was in a lot of pain, and she was very scared," Byrd told WSB.

I blame Ted Nugent.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Seven thousand buck reward for a horse, no reward offered for that four year old kid that got killed, I guess in Atlanta.

good point

Naw - if it was Ted - it would of been gutted and skinned...

they weren't interested in what an indian could do, so they restricted the tests, and found that a 45 could drop a horse reliably.

wiki tells the short version. the full story included the dropping of glue horses. it was found that the 476 ely and 455 webley lacked velocity (thereby energy) and would not penetrate adequately, but that the 45 schoefield (45 government, a shortened version of the 45 colt that could be used in S&W revolvers, as well as colt peacemakers) did effectively penetrate thru both lungs and would reliably drop a horse in a matter of minutes. the 9mm luger cartridge and similar 9mm and 30 caliber euro military cartridges were found to be woefully deficient, as was the 38 long colt (then current US military revolver cartridge).

sounds like some a-hole or kid trying out his new x-mas present.

this is just property damage, with an added charge of cruelty to animals in most jurisdications.

A teenaged boy has been arrested and charged with shooting the horse as well as not reporting a number of deer he had also shot and killed. Apparently he has been 'shooting' at animals along this road for a while:
