If you think he is bad (as many of you have voiced) then I can respect your opinion, but please base your opinions on his future actions as a mod.... not his past posts.

I think opinions have been fairly clearly expressed. Perhaps now, it is time, to agree to disagree? Continuing to barrage the thread with why you don't like this decision isn't going to change the decision. Let time show who is right and wrong, if that is what you need.

For those who are concerned about moderation in the Regional forums - perhaps you can view this appointment as added incentive for the members of those forums to ensure that their forums don't need a moderator's attention by not letting those forums get out of hand with personal attacks, stalking, baiting and insults. Those are the main reasons moderators get involved. If people are behaving themselves and not violating TOS, then there is no need for a moderator to step in, Charles or any of the other moderators. Think about it.

For those who are concerned about mis-behaviour in the Upper Forums, I suggest you might want to re-visit these forums as things have improved now that OT behaviour is being curtailed there. Yes, there are a lot of repeat questions asked but there are also a lot of new members joining every single day. It takes a while to find your way around VJ and while the information may be available, they haven't discovered it yet. VJ is an information exchange forum so is it really a problem when someone new to the site asks the question that has been asked many times before? The answer is new to them even if it isn't to you. Instead of staying away and complaining about how difficult it is to find information there (and if you have problems, think how it is for the newcomers,) why not join in and share the benefit of your information and experiences by answering some of those questions in a thoughtful and respectful manner? You can complain all you want, but here, too, you can be part of the solution if you are willing to exert yourselves.

For what it is worth (and yes, I know, that isn't very much for some of you ) I support Charles' appointment as the Regional Forums Deputy Moderator and fully expect he will take his responsibilities seriously and conscientiously. I am reading a lot of comments from others saying give him a chance to prove himself and I agree. It seems to be a vocal minority only who is shouting very loud in opposition - a minority that admits it has personal issues with the individual involved - and who is not willing to accept this decision.

I actually think a mod in each regional forum is a good idea - someone aware of cultural sensitivities and the subforum membership and what not

My only concern is managing that many people but it is an idea to consider. I think on the upper forums my break out is reasonable but I am open to ideas...

I agree as well. Each regional forum is so nuanced that only an insider could really moderate it well.

The advantage, as Tromp says, is that you have people in charge of forums that are already members and are culturally sensitive to the area. Nothing chaps my asc more than an "outsider" coming into the RU forum making decisions based on what they think they the hell know, when in fact they know nothing. This would alleviate that problem.

It's at least worth a trial period. Why not sign a few forums up for it and see how it goes?

They said this day would never come. They said our sights were set too high.

It seems like an odd choice, but the Canadian and MENA ladies seem to like him so maybe it's a good idea

He does crave timbits and gives the MENA ladies the DVD release list on tuesdays.

He also gives us chocolate, iced cream and midol when it's that time of the month. I say good choice!
