Pretty neat footage. Being able to see the curvature of the Earth is something.

Pity the USAF retired the SR-71. That flew as high and about 5 times as fast.

And if you want to compare Top Gear presenters in planes (James May was in the U-2) try and find the footage of Jeremy Clarkson (the mouthy un-PC one) in a two-seat F-15, from his series "Extreme Machines". The last minute is funny as anything.

Awesome footage! Some of those views look like shots taken from spacecraft. I'm also amazed how the U2 can land on such narrow landing gear!

The main gear is single track to fit the fuselage. Balance on landing and take-off is provided by outriggers that retract into the wings.

Other jets that use similar arrangements are the B-52 and the Harrier.

An older cousin flew the SR-71's first retirement flight... only to have the darn plane reactivated a few years later. Nice footage.
