My wife likes to call me her little alien all the time. And I always bug her that it isn't in her own self interest to sponsor me, since when I eventually become a citizen, I'm going to cancel her vote out (she's republican, I'm not).

Just thought I'd start a light hearted conversation to take my mind of checking every 30 minutes if my case has been touched online! I'm not a very patient person!

My husband and I joke that he just married me for a green card and I married him for money. Clearly many people don't find that to be a joke, but we think it's funny.

During the process when we were trying to get through the long waiting periods we would talk about why we thought things were slow.

I'm a little hesitant to share this because I don't want to offend anyone, but when we would be talking about this, I would usually say that it's taking so long because he's a terrorist. And then he would say that he loves terrorizing me.

It was just a little inside joke that we have with each other and again, this isn't meant to offend anyone.

It was just a little inside joke
Understood, but others who have Internet access -- such as agents of the government -- may completely lack a sense of humor about such matters.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Well...we haven't really joked much yet about the immigration stuff, but........

Since I'm in Canada and Tim's in the U.S., and there's no Tim Horton's down there....he jokes that I'm his little "Timbit."

(Good idea starting this thread, by the way. Might help to cheer up some people around here.)

We joked around how since I am paying for the petition, I "own" her....

but she countered that she is paying for the application, medical, and plane ticket, so she "owns" me...

"Yes Dear...."

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

That's so cute!!! I marrying a Tim as well, and love to refer to him as Timbit! (which is quite funny as he's also shorter than me...)

Can't really recall us joking about immigration, ( course we joke about everything else, so we probably have) but we sure do like to tease each other about our accents and such. Well, I don't have one, but he's a Southerner. Now...If I came from the Maritimes....THEN I'd have an accent

My husband used to joke about how long the process was taking that I should just become a 'snowback' - that's a Canadian wetback :D . I joked back that it is because the US government suspects us Canadians of planning an invasion so they are being extra careful - after all, there are already all those snowbirds in Florida! Sometimes if you don't find something to laugh about in this process, you'll just end up crying instead.

We didn't joke at all when we were waiting on AOS. It was really stressful for us and I'm a really good worrier. ;)

Sometimes though when he seems really serious I tell him he's being German. We both make fun of Germans actually, and their (stereotyped of course) lack of smiling. ;) No giggling, except in the basement. :D
