 just say 'no' to country music! p.s. ministry was bada$$ back in my day. nothing like some good old-fashioned industrial metal. 69!69!69!

Country music is the sign of the devil. It is just wrong :dead:

You folks have obviously been exposed to the diarrhea that passes for country music these days. You need to pick yourself up some Johnny Cash, or some Dixie Chicks. You need to sit yourself down to some Hank Williams, Hank Williams Junior, Waylon Jennings, Ernest Tubb, Dolly Parton, and...yes...Elvis Presley.

:protest:

agreed with pretty much the rest of your list.

I love Ministry's early stuff. I stopped listening after Psalm 69; but I might pick up the later stuff just to see if I like it. With Sympathy (their very first album, Brit Synth Pop) was horrid. But Twitch, TLORAH, TMIATTTT, and Psalm 69 were all amazing. I'm still stuck in the 90s as far as music goes. Primus is also another group I love; but again I stopped listening after Pork Soda. Go figure. :P

Ministry.....Wow, there's a name from my past. I was part of the scene and partied a bunch with Al Jourgensen. Haven't seen him in a long time. I used to live down the block from WaxTrax (just down the block from the Biograph). Used to DJ at Neo and the Artful Dodger. Good times. I still have all my old Punk and New Wave records. And I remember Le Mare.

Nowadays I listen mainly to classic Jazz and old time Swing and Big Band music.

Wow you really had a bad trip. Actually I like some of the big band stuff, never got into jazz, I preferred the blues.

I still listen to the old stuff, just not as often. My radio almost always is tuned to WDCB, College of Dupage, public radio. They play Jazz most of the time, except specific genre in the evenings, Monday night is Celtic, Tuesday Bluegrass, Wednesday is a show called When Country Wasn't Cool. On Saturdays is the Swing Shift and then Those Were the Days (old time radio music and programs). Sat. evernings is Bues.

WDCB has Internet streaming so everyone can listen; I had brought my laptop and a pair of small speakers and Alla and I listened to this while we were in Kiev.

If the last ever recording of Garth Brooks caught fire; I wouldn't wizz on it to put the fire out. I might sell tickets to watch it burn

I do like some Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Dolly, Johnny Cash and very few others. Jazz is the work of the devil-five guys playing five different instruments to five completely different songs is not jazz, it is noise. I like classic rock, some 60's rock stuff, some recent rock stuff, no metal or acid (except maybe a bit of AC/DC), all types of comedy (ooops, that is not music), once a year some lite rock and sometimes classical. Many times, I like silence!

Yeah, I know, some people just can't get over the fact that the Dixie Chicks committed the immoral sin of exercising their right to free speech, despite the fact that their music is some of the best in country music. Johnny Cash said pretty much the same things about our beloved idiot-child former President, but got a pass. Maybe it would have been different if he'd had a #######.

Here's another on my list: Merle Haggard. I think his politics suck аss, but I wouldn't boycott his music, burn his CD's, and make death threats against him because of them.

One of the unintended consequences of the mighty first amendment is letting people speak out, and in doing so showing what silly, immature, inarticulate goofballs they are. And the "no standards" media sniffs them out gives them a level of credibility when they deserve none. Such, IMJ, is the case of the Ditzy Chicks. Really, must we lift up these silly young girls to the level of political spoke persons? Take them seriously? I mean, they just got their period a few weeks ago. The rabid anti Bush people will take anyone they can get to speak against him. But can there at least be some standards imposed?

They certainly don't carry the same standing as Merle Haggard who has paid his dues and lived life and knows hardship. And, frankly, he has real talent.

My father was a hardcore country music fan...only he called it Hoe Down music. Please spare me the Ho jokes here. Like Rock and Roll, country music ain't what it used to be and has spun off many subgroups and cross overs. Just give me some good old hoe down and Blue Grass music...and send the Ditzy Chicks back to school so they can get their high school diplomas.

So you need to live a hard life and "pay your dues" in this country to be entitled to free speech?

Nope just pay me your dues I will record it in the register and you will be allowed to speak your mind.

As far as the Dixie Chicks go I was all for the fact that they said what they said. I dont even remember what exactly was said but I admire people who speak out and challenge the establishment. There are many other people who speak out but never get heard. I hate the hypocrites who speak out not because the believe in what they say but because they want people to hear them say controversial things.

Well now hold on a second here. It wasn't the "rabid anti Bush people" who elevated the Dixie Chicks. They made the comment at a small club in London, and the right-wingers caught scent of it and made it a big deal. It was a one-liner, off-the-cuff, and the Chicks *never* intended to be political spokespeople. It was the extreme right who turned them into "political spokes persons," nobody else.

if they didn't intend to be, they'd never have opened their mouth. their music sucked and they needed some free advertising, they got it.

Musicians and actors should be censored when they make political statements, or in the alternative their work in the entertainment field should be locked down for a year every time they turn activist. It will help them stay focused on what is most important to them.

Can we also not have rappers turn actors?

Actually, Mos Def is pretty funny. Ice Cube did a decent job in the Fridays. Marky Mark has been making some awesome movies for quite some time too. (Matter of fact, he and Cube made a good movie together.)

And feel my words - Common will be the next rapper to make it big on the silver screen.

As long as we can keep Eminem from "flexing his acting muscles" by playing a rapper again, we should be OK. Oh, and Xzibit should stick to backin Dre up. Dre should stay outta movies too. Come on guys, somewhere there's a lonely young black actor cursing all of you for taking all the acting jobs (and Mario Van Peebles for always takin his shirt off.) Make some beats, dunny!

That just reminded me of Meth and Red. Whoops. How High was classic.

Allright I'm done. I'm off to watch "I'm Bout It- the movie." UUUUUUugggghhh!

i agree slim but the rapper turned to actor started back in the day when the rat pack started acting, so blame Sinatra,Martin,Bishop and Davis jr. If they had stuck to singing we would have less musicians on the silver screen.

I dont think anyone should be locked down for a year for speaking their mind, if you are going to limit what musicians can say where does it stop. Its like our other discussions about gun control, if we are going to impinge on our 2nd amendment, then lets rewrite the first one, to say

You have the right to free speech as long as it agrees with at least two people on the Russian forum on Visa Journey, hmm seems a bit problematic to me. Remember the beauty of the first amendment is NO ONE is required to listen, ignore it. If the media hadnt reacted the way they did nobody would have cared. The most important speech we must protect is the speech we dont agree with. I dont watch Fox news,CNN or MSNBC, they should be allowed to exist but I just dont watch them. I get all my news from the Daily Show and TVRU1

I'm always amused when somebody is surprised when a non-actor turns out to be a good actor. Honestly, I think you have to try hard not to be a good actor. Any one of us here could, after a couple months with a good acting coach, pull off a performance that would garner Oscars. Even GiGii and the Sock Puppets, and hell that's saying something. The Hollywood types try to make it seem like "the craft" is such hard work, when really it's just about delivering lines in a believable way. I'm never surprised when a rapper or hell even Tom Arnold turns out to be a good actor. They've parlayed their previous success into hiring a coach to make sure they don't go Britney Spears when it comes time to get up in front of the camera. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Directing is where it's at, beeyotches. Which is why I'm signed on to direct Transformers 3: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Autobots. It's gonna be awesome.

Dont you mean the traveling Fembots? Id pay a dollar to see that!!!!

Seriously, I'm pretty sure I could make a more watchable movie than Michael Bay. If there's any evidence that our society is in decay, it's the fact that Transformers and Transformers 2 were tops at the box office.

You probably can make a better movie than Bay and Woo(gosh I hate his movies). The harry potthead movies are also evidence that our society is in decay, the last book is going to be made into 2 movies how disgusting is that. Ive only seen part of one movie and never read any of the books. I liked the movie transformers but I also liked the cartoon, I havent seen the second one and Im not sure when I will. I wasnt expecting cinematic brilliance just a decent amount of action, so cool special effects and a hot chick, the rest of it was weak but think about the story they are basing it on.

Editing is more important. Keeping the timing, pacing, and the right take of the scene.

Editing is only more important in porn hehehe. Cant have the finish before the start and you have to sync up that groovy 70's funk.
