Consulate Review: Moscow, Russia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : December 29, 2006
Embassy Review : The interview went very well except the officer asked about a medical issue that was two years old and no longer a problem. He asked Elena if she told me about the problem her answer was "Yes". The consular officer wanted a letter from me stating that I was aware of the condition(no longer anything), that I understood the US govt was not going to pay for treatment if the problem reoccurred, and that I understood my insurance would not cover it either. Elena had to have another medical exam at home and send the results to Moscow before they would complete the visa.
I sent the letter as soon as I heard even though there is no information on the application or the paperwork that states what kind of medical insurance I have. I checked with my insurance company and there is no preexisting condition clause for my insurance so they would cover it. I was not happy and called the embassy and talked to the supervisor for the consular officers and explained that they should not speak on any subject that they have no knowledge of just to frighten someone who is already nervous. This added a delay of 1 week to receipt of visa.
Rating : Moderate

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
