how long have you been away from you significant other..... If already with them how long where you apart and what are some general tips on helping cope with the distance and the separation?

Me personally we have been apart for a year now and what helps right now is just talking with each other on yahoo or something......

The reason I am asking is cause I would like to find different ways of dealing cause not everyone knows way to cope with the pressure and stress in this situation. Lets help each other out

Honestly, we were never apart for very long. Since the day we met, I think the longest we've been apart is 81 days. Being as I was a university student and he traded in a raise for extra vacation time, we were able to visit frequently. We also had the advantage of the BUNAC visa for students/recent grads on our side, so I was able to move in with him in the UK and work without a problem.

When we were apart, we webcammed and Skyped and I took my laptop to class and took advantage of the wireless internet installed in all of the classrooms to chat with him pretty much all day, every day. Didn't help my grades any, but eased the ache in my heart just a little.

I last saw Olga on March 20, 2006 as I was going through the departure routine at the Vladivostok Airport.

It was quite a sad day. :crying:

Daily emails and I phone her once a week on Thursday mornings, only an hour and a half since we last spoke to each other! :luv:

Uhhh, 67 minutes since I left for work this morning and kissed my husband goodbye ;)

But prior to the lovey dovey reunion, we had a 4 year long distance relationship. We visited 3 times in those 4 years, and the longest we went without seeing each other was a year and a half and 2 years.

During the looooooong droughts between visits, yahoo/msn+webcam+mic+5 hours a day made things bearable. Also receiving mailon occasion was nice. But most of all, knowing that eventually we'd be together for the rest of our lives made the years and months seem less insurmountable.

He flew back to the US on Wed this week. We had been apart for about 10 days at that point and couldn't stand it. Before that we were back and forth from Aus to the US etc. Frequent flyer miles are adding up fast...:(

This is hell. We talk on the phone when he wakes up and when he gets home from work, thank God for cheapo phone cards! Email during the day...this SUCKS.

I feel for ya :(

When I left the Melbourne airport on wed I came home and cried n cried.

I used to have a ticker for how long it's been since we've seen each other, but I rather not look at it. I cant wait till I can create one for how long until we see each other again :)

To all those who said it's been a while here are a few tips from my own experience that might help. First get yahoo or something similar so that you can talk for free. I am a cheap person and I don't like spending alot of money for telephone stuff. My fiancee and I talk on yahoo 4 or so hours a day and sometimes we even talk via voice on there when the connections are good. Second remember with long distance equals stress. When you and your better half get in to arguments relax and take things easy. Be slow to speak slow to anger as the good book says. I think one of the things her and I have had to get through is the differences we have. With cultures with life. And doing this all with about 10000 miles betweent us isn't helpful. Never listen to what people say. And above all remember there are people who have been away longer than you hahahahahahahahaha :( okay so a year isn't so bad I know I can do it now. would I want to do it again HELL NO I am just thankful we have been through so much and our relationship is so strong for the challenges that have been set before us. It's not an easy road keep your head low and eyes open and you'll be fine just remember the word of the day PATIENCE

It's been 3 months and 24 days :( . We're cheap, so we communicate mostly through yahoo messenger and e-mail, phone calls are expensive, we're saving money. It's very hard to be apart :( , but we communicate daily for hours and hours and it's better than nothing.

I'm fortunate, she is in Mexico and we were last together on June 29th. Before that, our gaps of seeing each were around 3 months.

I won't base my ticker on how long we were apart, personally, that's too much of a downer for me. I use SKYPE, seriously, this is a very good and cheap way to communicate. I think it basically costs 3 cents a minute to call her, about twice a week. We meet every night at the same time on chat. Also, we do cam, get family members involved and play games. In addition we also send postcards and suprise gifts, there is nothing better than getting a suprise in the old fashioned mail from someone you love. It's funny, the mail in Mexico is so slow we always say, "No, the mule has not come yet".

For us, it's been rough at times, but I know there are many other stories out there that are much rougher. Hang in there!
