my fiancee just got medical check done and will have an interview soon, hopefully approve too. I'm planing to go oversea and fly together back to US once visa is approve. She have never travel and don't speak English and it will be tough. my question is will we get separated at the port of entry? Because there are a different lane for US citizen & immigrant/none citizen. i know that IO will ask questions and she wont be able to answer anything in English. Is it a good idea to let one of the IO know that i came with my fiancee?yes?no? i can't clear this one up my head. My POE will be in st.paul/minneapolis, thats where im from.

After returning from our Honeymoon in Costa Rica, we arrived in Miami....one of us went to the citizen's line, the other went to the non-citizen's line.

One of us got through in minutes, the other took HOURS. We spoke to an Immigration officer, and they confirmed that since we are a family,

we can both go through the citizen's line.

So...I would say that having an official K-1 Visa would say that you two have family status, per se.

Short answer, take her inline with you. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Here in Houston, the process took 5 minutes. My wife did not speak English when she arrived. Maybe that was a good thing! The process is not difficult. Probably more stressful for the beneficiary, but not difficult at all. The US Citizen can go to the Immigration lane for Foreigners. I did. But the IO did not process us together since we were not married yet. So I had to wait for her to finish before I could be processed. The Immigration officer looked at her documents and asked her a couple questions. She said "I don't speak English". He escorted her to a room for Immigration to enter her Passport and Visa information into the system. I was allowed to sit with her. Then they returned her passport and we went to get our luggage. No problems at all.

We came through Miami. He went through one line. I went through the other. Both were about the same time, except we had to go back cause they didnt' take the sealed envelope or do the intake interview thing.

I travelled back with my (now) husband and we were both sent to the foreigner's line. I wonder what is the difference. Two others were allowed to both go through the citizen's line. Not us, we were allowed to be in line together, but not the citizen's line, the foreigner's line. This was at JFK in NYC. Hmmmm.............

Anywho, it took forever cause some diplomats came in and they were given preferential foreigner treatment, so our line was slow as molasses. It took several hours unfortunately. And as a citizen, I fussed the whole time. :P

When traveling together, just go to whichever line is shorter. Once she has the green card, you would go to the same line anyway. This is a non-issue.

Interesting, I was wondering this also, of course we are nowhere near that point yet. :crying: We could make an even stronger claim since we are married.

So hopefully next June when I bring Govi back with me(he will have IR-1 at that point) we should both go in the 'non-US passport' line? We will be coming through JFK I assume.

CONGRATS on your marriage by the way!!!!:dance::dance:

Thanks :)

I asked and was directed to the "Visitors" line. It turned out to be shorter than the "US Citizens line" :)

Same with us. We came through JFK and when I asked which line they sent us to the non-usc line.

We were in the USC line...they processed my entire family all at once. We were all escorted to the back room together for ICE to complete the processing...10mins tops.
