I say GO ON!! WEAR IT!!! lol. My husband and I went to the local registars office to get married and not only did I wear a proper dress, but I also had someone to give me away AND a matron of honour, AND a bridesmaid!! It's your day GIRL...make the most of it with what you have. This day only happens once right?? Enjoy yourself

I got married in my dress in the Australian version of the courthouse!

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

actually, I completely understand where you are coming from....

I`m not the white wedding dress type of gal, but I found the most perfect dress for the wedding (for my taste) ....now, I did ask all the questions you are asking, about how silly will it be since we also only plan to have the civil ceremony....I came to a conclusion that made me very happy....

It is my wedding, I only intend to go through it once and if I want to look like million bucks during it who is to stop me? who I ask you, who ? :P

October 27, Petition Shipped to Embassy

October 31, Embassy received petition

November 1, Embassy called to set up fingerprint appointment

November 4, Fingerprint appointment

November 23, Fingerprint check results came in - Thumbs up

November 30, Fiance picks up packet 3

December 5, Call embassy to set up interview date

December 28, embassy tells us they screwed up

I'm with everyone else: wear the dress! We got married at a registry building and I wore a long white dress. My husband and our two witnesses all wore kilts (even though my husband is English- our two friends are Scottish). It was great fun and fantastic to do it "our way".
