I guess sometimes music just makes you want to stand up and sing along. Being Cdn I get up and sing along to

Hey - no one is going to believe it if the lyrics to one of our songs had the line "God Bless Canada" when we spend 8 months a year in the 7th ring of hell (aka winter)

No. It's not the national anthem... (and I don't even really understand why that's a requirement anyway)

That's how I feel.

We've been to two outdoor concerts in the last 6 weeks where this was played and everybody stood up except us.

That's fine. Stand if you want to.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

It's my cell phone ringtone. So far, no one stands when I get calls.

could be real interesting if you get phone calls in the ladies room.

I wouldn't stand, but that's just me. I do stand for the National Anthem though. Can't help it. Spent the first 12 years of my life on military bases....

Isn't it just normal patriotism??

 I love that song! But now I am going into hockey withdrawal. :crying:

And no, I wouldn't stand up for "Proud", but if you want to that's OK. *shrugs*

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

hmm, interesting. Sociologically one could say either it's from a collective poor self-esteem? Do you think people, more so than at other times in history have a poor sense of confidnece in the nation?

OR do we all just feel stronger, therefore need to shout it from the rooftops with joyousness?

Well since the lyrics says And I proudly stand up, next to you... may be a reason people want to stand.

I wouldn't automatically stand for the song, I have heard it a million times since I was younger. It's not a new song though. I think the guy who wrote just really loves America and he wrote it before the whole world terrorism stuff anyway so he didn't do it b/c of that. I would stand in certain circumstances if I felt compelled, but not always.

I have some friends who love the song though. I never cared for the country-ish style of the song.

Every country has these type of songs I bet. I know India has a million about how great it is there.

Most people here in the ballpark stand for that song.

But maybe that's because it's the seventh inning stretch time anyway.

Otherwise I would remain seated.
