unfortunately more and more local police are training to be able to ask immigration questions. The last thing I want is for my wife to have to deal with it, I would rather she carry it all the time. She is used to protecting her purse.

I am not sure I will carry mine as if it does get lost or stolen it costs to replace it, and I don't carry my passport with me either. I do not have my Green Card yet and when I get it I will make my final decision. I think it is a personal choice that people make, and I find it hard to believe that if the police pulled me over and for some reason felt they needed to ask about my immigration status, they better be asking my husband for his too (he is US born and bred), but if they asked are you going to tell me for something routine they wouldn't take you home to produce it or if they hauled you off to jail that your significant other couldn't go home and get it and produce to the authorities for your release. I personally am not that worried about that as much as it getting lost or stolen like I said and having to pay to get another one.

2011 May 9 - Placed in line for interview scheduling

2011 June 13 - Rec'd yellow letter (no change in status online)

2011 June 23 - Rec'd text that my case has been scheduled for interview

2011 August 1 - Interview (rec'd via snail mail June 27) PASSED

2011 August 3 - Rec'd email that my case has been scheduled for Oath

2011 September 1 - Oath ceremony (rec'd snail mail Aug 5)

2011 September 1 - All done, yeah.

I carry it with me (unless we are going to the QuikTrip 2 mins from my house) all the time, given the current climate in Oklahoma r/t immigrants.

I carry my greencard inside my wallet but keep my Philippine passport at home. If we will just go to store to buy some foods, I don't carry my wallet. I kept a photocopy of my greencard at home for emergency purposes.

I carry mine, but I don't know if I'll do that forever. For now, I guess I'm just excited to have it so I carry it :star:

I carry my green card around with me. I also take my son's green card along when we travel out of state. He is not required to have his green card on him at all times. I will definitely take our GCs along when we travel to TX for our summer vacation this year.

08/17/08: Mailed N400 to TSC

08/19/08: USPS attempted delivery

08/20/08: TSC received N400

08/21/08: TSC cashed check

09/02/08: Received NOA...........Priority date: 08/20/08

09/02/08: Received Biometrics Notification

09/18/08: Biometrics completed - Charlotte DO

10/24/08: Received Interview Letter

12/08/08: Interview @ 1:00pm. APPROVED!

01/05/09: Oath Ceremony 10:00AM. Now officially a USC!!!

The law says you are supposed to have it with you at all times. I guess if you are in an area that the local police aren't trained in immigration law you don't have to worry too much. If you are in an area where the police are cracking down on illegal immigrants then you are taking a risk by not carrying it with you. I know I would be very angry with the police if they detained my wife for not having her proper papers with her. I have seen too many stories in our local paper about police stopping people for any reason and asking if they have papers proving they are here legally. Our own mayor has publically stated that he told the local police to do what ever it takes to get all illegals out of our city. Ice cruises around with the local police also and help them looks for potential illegals.

11/10/08 - Removing Conditions - Sent package out!

11/19/08 - Received Notice of Action - 1 year extension on my current green card - now waiting for biometrics letter.

11/28/08 - Received biometrics letter.

12/12/08 - Biometrics appointment - 10am.

01/13/09 - Still waiting............

06/08/09 - Card in production and on it's way!

06/22/09 - Received 10 Year Green Card! YAY!!

If you have State ID, how would they differentiate you as a LPR from a regular citizen?
