Family Booted From Buffet For Wasting Too Much Food

Manager Says Family Wasted Food Several Times

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Wendy Dershem may think twice before leaving that egg roll on her plate at her next Chinese buffet.

The Des Moines woman, her boyfriend and her two children were kicked out of a restaurant last week after management at Dragon House accused her of leaving too much food on her plate.

Dershem said she paid for her buffet on Saturday but was abruptly told to leave after eating one plate of food.

Employees said they had been watching her family on previous trips to the restaurant and were fed up with her habits. They said she would pile her plate with food, take one bite and throw it away.

"They just take one bite and throw it away," said cashier Lin Huyen. "They take four egg rolls and crab ragoon, take one bite of egg roll and throw the whole plate. That is wasting food."

Dershem said she was shocked by the scolding and complained to management when she paid her check.

Dragon House manager Kent Cao said his restaurant does not offer an all-you-can waste buffet. He said Dershem's family took food, didn't finish it and then piled on the same food again, he said. He says he won't allow her back in the restaurant unless she changes her ways.

This is as hilarious as the time I went to a pizza buffet and saw 3 women sit down in a booth next to us. One got the buffet and the other 2 ordered water only. All 3 started eating off of the same plate. The restaurant manager was not amused. He kicked all 3 out. The one woman that paid was indignant and repeated a dozen times, "I paid my money!" The manager should have called the cops, but he just kicked them out and told them he didn't need their business. And he wouldn't refund the woman's money (much to her indignation).

Stupid is as stupid does!

That is just plain wasteful and do not blame them one bit.

I don't understand these people. why do they waste so much? From what I can gather, it's not for status, is it for show? and if people can't afford to go out and eat, why do they?! (in reference to the pizza comment).

teaching the kids to be wasteful and driving up the costs for those who do eat everything on their plate.

if i don't know what it is, i'll get a small amount and test it, if i like it i'll go back and get more.

We avoid "all you can eat" places.

Firstly, neither Nani or I eat a lot in one sitting (usually we share a meal and a salad). So, there's no point in doing an "all you can eat" gig.

Secondly, the food served on a buffett is usually not as good as what you get a la carte. We have this little Chinese take-out joint close by that is really good. The food is good, made fresh to order and any one of their combo meals (@ $7.00) serves both of us plenty.

Thirdly, some folks in these "all you can eat" places just scare me. I remember my first time in a Chinese "all you can eat" joint years ago and I couldn't believe what I saw. I mean, how can any one person eat that fcuking much?

All that said, yeah, kick those that abuse the deal out of there. Those businesses don't need them.

are they insane?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
