Finally received visa

Jan finally received his visa in the mail today, after some delays, thought I should post some notes, in case the situation occurs to anyone else in the future.

His interview was scheduled for April 18; the I-797 (NOA2) expired on April 21. On April 15, he received an email from the consulate in Frankfurt, saying that even though his I-797 had already expired (which it hadn't) he was still permitted to have his interview, but he would need to have me send a new letter of intent. I sent an email to the consulate, with a scan of the I-797, showing that it hadn't expired, but didn't receive any response.

The other issue was that his medical exam was scheduled for after the interview; because he waited some 5+ hours for the interview, he was told that he wouldn't be able to make the exam and that he should have it when he returned to Hamburg. We have no idea why he wasn't instructed to have his exam before the interview. I think this is the main reason for the delay, otherwise he probably would have had the visa at least a week ago.

So - two things - if the beneficiary's interview is close to the expiration date of the NOA2, the petitioner might just want to provide a new letter of intent for the beneficiary to bring to the interview; and if the medical exam is scheduled for after the interview, see if it can be rescheduled for before it.
