The Good Things:

You get excited over a text message, an email, or any sign that your other half is alive and thinking about you on the otherside of the world.

You really make the time you are together count.

Snail mail becomes a lot more fun than email.

It's an excuse to cancel plans you weren't interested in anyway to talk to your hubby/wife.

The Bad Things:

Time differences.

You miss not being able to hold your loved one when you are lonely or just want a hug.

Your bed is empty for months if not a year at a time.

In the end, it's all worth it though. (Provided the visa is granted) :P

One of the many good and exciting LDR 'thangs' is booking a trip unbeknownst to your fiance and turning up on his door step with nothing but a long coat on. That will leave him gob smacked and happy to say the least

Hmm, let's see, my guy has been in his village going on 3 weeks now, no mobile service, spotty electric and net, communication has consisted of maybe 3-4 offline messages and 2 chats in that time....country is in political transition - i will likely be witnessing the king stepping down when I am there, if he has not done so before I go...trying not to go crazy.....

Trying to see the bright spot....

Seeing him again when I come out the doors at KTM airport will probably be one of the happiest moments of my life. :dancing::goofy: Let the (second? third?) honeymoon begin!!!!:dance:

ME TOO! I'm not a bed snuggler and hubster is. When I sleep I want my space thank you very much...and when he DOES start to snore, I give him a gentle nudge till he turns over, but like with DeadPool, he turns on his side instantly now and shuts up. Yay Hubster! LOL

I would say that it enhances communication. It allowed me and my fiance to get to know each other without being distracted by language--she writes extremely good english, but spoke not as well. And, it made me realize that I tend to be somewhat shallow (OUCH!). I got a terrible picture of her back from the florist but her letters and phone calls were just amazing. Note: most people (me included) are not very photogenic. don't place much faith in photos!

we wrote like we had known each other for years. Not long poetic letters, but nice, to the point and little romantic letters. We got to know each other over some time, so we think about how we felt.

My first marriage was a LDR also--she lived 150 miles from me. We wrote (pre internet!) and even the first time I met her, she didn't look her best! But, we had a very good marriage for 18 years and are still best friends. I am very lucky to have Lola in my life and it probably wouldn't have happened except for the internet. She and her daughter have been here three days and I am loving having them around!!

It's interesting to note how much talk there's been about flatulence and snoring in this thread. I wonder if the two are some sort of biological "morse code."
