Do you think it's normal?

Hey guys

Just wanted to have ur opinion about something since I do not really know how things really work out in the States.

"Do u think that it's normal that a scheduler will check an employee on the hotel to make sure that the hotel is taking care of him/em? These employers have out of town shifts that require them to stay in a hotel arranged by the scheduler and pls note that he/she travels by him/herself."

If it was my job to take care of finding places for people to stay, I would definately check to make sure they were happy with the arrangements. Especially if it were longer terms. I would use that information to then adjust my future plans if they were not happy.

the scheduler works for this person's employer, not the hotel. but she arranges the hotel inquiry that floaters need. do u really think it's normal that she tried to meet my fiance in the hotel to make sure everything is ok? i want to see someone from state's point of view before coming to the conclusion that she probably tried to pick on him.

In that case, absolutely not. Unless she just happened to be in town at the same time, at the same hotel, for some other company business, NO.

Yeah, seems weird to me. I can see if they're in town, but even then, couldn't they just call the hotel room or whatever?

Yeah, that seems odd to me that someone would come in person to check if everything was okay. A simple call would do it IMO.

i've never heard of such a thing. my boss might ask how the hotel is when we are on the road, but certainly no one calls the hotel to see how we are doing or comes by to make sure everything is ok.

my next question is this - how far away from this hotel did the scheduler have to go to get there? if it's more than several hours, something smells fishy.

The only time I've run into something like that was on vacation in India. The company who we booked tours and our driver with sent a representative to our hotel one day to make sure everything was ok. I was quite surprised. Seemed nice of them. But in that case, it's their business to make sure clients are pleased.

In this case it seems quite unusual.
