No I think all those people were born into the religion. It was a birthday party and then everyone crowded around a shrine type thing set up in the house. A guy had an orange in his hand and went into this semi-trance and walked around the crowd saying things in a frantic way...then came up to me and started saying all this stuff about my future and how I need to be careful about driving, etc. It was a few years ago so I don't remember exactly what happened. But it was interesting to hear him predict what could happen to me! lol

Fruits are offerings for the Orishas,we always bring coconuts for Elegua. Some lady did something like that at last year's party but the Santero Mayor had to snap her out of it because it wasn't her party.Did he tell you who your guardian is ?

One of my good friends is becoming a mambo (Voudou) and is also Catholic. I know there are a lot of similarities between Santeria and Voudou. I know some Santeros who are also Houngans.

(Orishas are Orixas in Portuguese - there exist similarities to Candomble too - all coming from the Africans who were brought to the Americas as slaves.)

I am technically Catholic, but consider myself more "Non Denominational Christian" because I am more of a Pelaginist (good acts more important than getting along to Mass every Sunday...and no that isn't because I like having a lie-in!) I do love some of the traditions and formality of the Catholic Church, but I do find it to be too emphasised on rituals and "ticking the boxes" than actually believing, studying the Bible etc. Is Salvation without belief but plenty of good acts possible? I would like to think so, but I leave that one up to God. I try to lead a "spiritual" life through personal reflection and Bible Study, reading books etc, but do my best to do "good" acts throughout my life as part of the deal, so to speak.

I voted Christianity, because I was raised to that, but I have no religion, so the answer would be none, if there were such option, but as usual, this is just another flawed poll.

Imagine there's no Heaven. It's easy if you try. No hell below us, above us only sky

Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too

Imagine all the people living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us and the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can

No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one

I hope someday you'll join us and the world will live as one

I can't vote for more than 1. :(

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I was baptized Protestant. As far as what religion I am- I don't know.

I believe in something bigger and better than I am, I try to make right choices and do good in my life but I also make lots of mistakes. I don't believe in religions that look down on anyone for not believing what they believe nor any religion that says you will be punished for not living your life to certain rules.

I did put "other", or "agnostic" (which sounds basically like what you are from your brief snipet here!)

I, too, was raised Catholic, though I answer agnostic. I agree that there is beauty to the Catholic church, and I have to say that my experience of it did not include "ticking the boxes", but I was raised in a predominantly Catholic area where, perhaps because there was the security of being the majority, there was a lot of tolerance for other religions. We had a very touchy-feely kind of religion class at my Catholic school. The Seminary students would come and strum their guitars and sing, Let it Be and If I were a Hammer, etc. Senior year religion class was more like sex ed (a little late, I know) but the boys learned what a ####### was in their class. That's pretty cool, I think. I don't think the public schools were teaching that.

All the Jewish kids and Hindi kids attended my high school. We didn't have any Muslim kids in the school when I was there, but there were a few at the boys' school. That is the kind of tolerance I'm talking about, but it wasn't like the school downplayed the religious aspect. The boys' school was run by ordained brothers. In the girls' school, we only had one nun and the principal was an ex-nun.
