Meryll's K3 visa was approved today at the Manila Embassy!!

WOOOT!!

Thanks to all my friends on VJ. The 297 days seemed like forever, but it was worth the wait.

The approval you seem to be mentioning (the approval of the petition) is only the first step of a 3-step journey, not the end of it. The end of it is the approval of the visa. Unfortunately, your innocently put question is exactly how USCIS see the journey too :(

Nearly everyone who had both petitions approved before December 2007 had their K3 sent to the NVC and the I130 held for adjustment of status. They had no choice in this, even though both petitions were being approved together. This is actually what most of us wanted... to be with our spouses sooner (regardless of extra cost).

Since December, it appears the opposite is true (I129Fs are being cancelled and I130s sent onwards). However, K3s do still save 2 months on processing times for most consulates and can save about 10 months at certain consulates (an example of this is in Canada) but no one seems to be getting the choice any more.
