Mox has explained this few times really well. I am using Mox's idea. Basically, touch doesn't mean much.

Somebody have scanned the document or somebody changed the file - it could mean anything. It is not predictor of what could happen. Hope it helps,

what I meant to ask then is how do I know that my case was "touched"?

Touched is when your "Last Updated" date changes on the "USCIS Case Status Online" page. That date represents the last time your petition was "touched."

Got our letter from NVC last night dated February 4th.

It says the petition will be forwarded to the embassy within 1 week. Let's hope that's true! :yes:

May 5, 2008 Receipt date for I-485, I-765 & I-131

June 6, 2008 Case transferred to CSC

July 8, 2008 AP Approved

July 14, 2008 EAD Approved

I just found out 2 days ago that not only was our case received by NVC, it's already gone to Vietnam, and we've got a Ho Chi Minh number. When I found our that Igor&Elina was approved the day before us, and then got to NVC so fast, I thought, "#######, we're at the bottom of the crate. Probably another month, then." A phone call to NVC on the 4th (the day they actually received our case) confirmed this worry, as they told me they hadn't received the case yet, call back in a few days. However, it didn't work out like that, thank goodness. Maybe they're just filling up crates at a tremendous clip!

It's the height of irony that I believe our case will move much faster now that it's on its way to Vietnam (NOTHING moves fast in Vietnam).

By the way, congratulations, Igor& Elina. I hope things move faster in Russia than they do in Vietnam.

Thanks Melrose Plant. Things move at an average speed in Russia, not the fastest, but not the slowest either.

I can't get through to NVC today - the line has been engaged most of the day. Before anyone jumps down my throat about calling them I do need to register a change of address with them. I don't want Packet 3 getting lost! :P

Does the automated system/input of CIS number just work for immigrant visas? Anyone know?

It's not on their system yet. I am so upset with CSC. Two whole months to send out an NOA1 and cash our check. Over six months for approval and now they are sitting on a bunch of petitions before forwarding them to NVC. Sorry for the whine but I'm just so frustrated with this whole deal. *throws a tantrum* :P
