My mother in law was driving out in Idaho somewhere a couple of months ago and almost got taken out by a badly secured couch that rolled off the back of a truck into her lane of traffic.

I'm glad you are safe. Black ice can be very dangerous - I had a similar accident in 1995 and my car was also hit by another vehicle - I was in the only part of the car that wasn't crunched in to an accordian and survived with just a few stitches and whiplash. Take care of yourself and know you are very very lucky. It is a good way to start the New Year knowing that someone was obviously looking out for you.
