PSA: If entering the USA 2 years after marriage, kindly remind the immigration officer of this
When we last entered the US, our immigration officer said "Oh, hmm I wonder if I could go ahead and change you an IR-1."  The agent right next to him said "Yes, you can do that" and he acted surprised. His comments made it pretty clear he was going to erroneously issue us a CR-1 and he seemed to not even know he could change the visa status until his coworker advised him (THANK GOODNESS she overheard!).  I don't know how onerous the process is to correct such an oversight but I'm glad we didn't have to find out!

Just wanted to pass this along in the hopes it saves someone from any problems with the wrong stamp being placed in the passport, as I've read about here before....  I would kindly remind the officer "We married >2 years ago.  We can enter with an IR-1 visa now right?"

Traveled to Canada for 20 days after entering the U.S. on a K-1 visa (June 1–22). Seeking reentry under Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR).
I entered the U.S. on a K-1 visa on June 1st and left for Canada on June 2nd, remaining here for 20 days. I am now attempting to return to the U.S. through Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) using Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR). My K-1 visa is expired, but my I-94 is still valid. Am I ok?

Wrong USCIS application form filed by my lawyer!
Hello, so my wife came in k-1 visa to USA and we got married and all. We filled for work permit and green card together but while doing that my lawyer filed for I-130 no idea why. Will that application make my process for work permit and green card slow? If so how do I withdrawal that application? My lawyer isn’t helpful at all. I need some help…

Seeking advice for Thai/US couple - What US visa path to take?
My gf and I live in Thailand but spend 2-4months in the US per year. Once/if we have children age 5+, the time split would become vice versa. We have no plans to live full-time in the United States in the next 5 years, but I visit my family and friends 2-3x per year for 2-3 weeks at a time. I would love it if she can join me for those trips and experience that part of my life. What options do we have -- US visa wise, maybe a tourist or fiance visa later? Other?

Abandoned AOS and now regret it
Please be nice, I know I made a mistake... But got my K1 approved and arrived in the US June 25, 2024 and applied for AOS February 25, 2025 -- then left the US (abandoned my AOS). Will I be banned for re-entry to the US -- even under a spouse visa?

US Citizen with Foreign Fiancé: When and How to Get Married?
I'm currently living and working in the United States. My fiancé currently lives in Japan. We have been dating for about 6 months, and we have met in person several times, but we are not yet married.
My fiancé will be visiting me in the United States on a tourist visa some time in March or April and staying for about 3 months. I want to file for a fiance/spouse visa asap -- what's next?

NVC “First Termination Letter” after long visa backlog – CEAC locked, submitted inquiry, what next?

    Hello everyone,

I m looking for guidance from anyone who has dealt with a similar NVC situation.

I am a U.S. citizen and filed an immigrant visa petition for my brother. Our case details are as follows:

    • NVC case created: December 2020
    • Notice of Immigrant Visa Case Creation received: January 2023
    • Visa category: Family based (backlogged with long priority date wait)

When we first received the NVC notice in 2023, we were instructed to log into CEAC to pay fees and submit documents. However, at that time the fee and document buttons were grayed out, and we later learned this was due to visa unavailability / priority date not being current. Because of this, we did not submit fees or documents and were waiting for further notice once a visa became available.

Fast forward to April 15, 2026, we unexpectedly received an email from NVC titled First Termination Letter. The letter states that a visa number is now available and references INA 203(g), giving us one year to take action before the case is terminated.

The letter instructs us to log into CEAC to restart the case. However, when we try to log in, CEAC displays a message saying that:

fee payments and online forms can no longer be accepted because the case has been inactive for over one year.

CEAC tells us to contact NVC, so we immediately submitted a Public Inquiry Form requesting reactivation of the case and reopening of CEAC access. We attached the termination notice and supporting documentation.

Right now, we are waiting for NVC to respond.

    My questions:

    1. Has anyone successfully had an NVC case reopened after receiving a First Termination Letter ?
    2. Is this CEAC lockout normal while NVC reviews the inquiry?
    3. Is there anything else we should be doing proactively while waiting for NVC s response?

Any shared experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated. This process has been long and confusing, and we want to make sure we don t miss anything during this one year window.

    Thank you in advance.

    N-400 + Form N-648

We submitted my 79 yo father in laws n-400 finally, after him having a greencard for 6 years. He has dementia, depression and is unable to remember much. He's been in the states for almost 2 decades but has not learned the english language enough to communicate day-to-day so him taking the english speaking test is out of the question. His doctor completed the N-648 form detailing the "medical codes" as well as his current disabilities.

We've retained an immigration lawyer to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible. She mentioned there is a lot of fraud with the N-648 application and many get denied so she suggested he learns the basic 20 of 100 questions in his native language, just in case. I told her it'll be very difficult for my father in law to learn the language but she kept repeating, "do anything to have him learn the 20 questions, just in case".

I see him 4 times/ week and I know he's unable to retain new information. I'm not sure how the learning will go. I printed him the questions on index cards and told his wife to begin helping him study but I'm unsure of the outcome tbh.

Just wanted to share the beginning of our story on here. Good luck to all who are/have applied. If anyone has any experience with this, kindly share your story if you can. I wish you all luck!

Fiance lives in Hanoi, what to put for Consular Processing Information on application?

    Howdy all,

I'm filling in the petition for my fiance to kick this whole process off. One thing I am hung up on is the Consular Processing Information because we're getting conflicting information. I've been told by some that she must go to HCMC for her interview and visa process. But she's talked to other Vietnamese women who live in Hanoi that have gotten their visa's through the Hanoi consulate. From what she's found, there's a line around central Vietnam that determines which consulate you would go to, and since she lives in Hanoi she would go to that consulate.

I dug into things a bit more and found that the Ho Chi Minh City consulate is the only one listed on the travel.gov page for Vietnam that processes K-1/K-3 visas. But I also found information saying that the HCMC will have that Hanoi consulate conduct interviews as well.

I'm just really confused with all of this, can someone help me figure out what city I need to put for
Your beneficiary will apply for a visa abroad at the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate at:
    City: ___
    Country: Vietnam

    Thanks!

Hi, Congrats on your approvals! I wish everything continues to go quick for you! We applied at the same time and it has been 10 months with no new news. Did you contact USCIS for them to make the process go quicker? Did you add anything in your application that you think helped it get approved quickly? Any advice is appreciated during this waiting process.

Hello friend. I saw your dates on Visa Journey and they were close to mine. I was wondering if you have received your visa interview date in Ciudad Juarez? If so, can you share with me the date you received the notification and the date of your interview. I'm tracking other petitioners who are waiting for appointments in Ciudad Juarez, and I like to share monthly news.
