I'm new here, as you can probably tell and I honestly don't even know if I'm writing in the right part of this website, but I have been accepted for my visa over in the U.S. but now we are waiting to hear from the British embassy to schedule my interview. I live in Wales and I was hoping there'd be an embassy in Cardiff but it doesn't look like it. It looks as though I'll have to go to London but I don't drive and have no one to drive me :/ I'm really freaking out over how I can even get there.

London.

bus and train.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I'm in the same boat - up in mid-Wales just outside of Aberaeron in the middle of nowhere patiently waiting for my visa to process. You'll have to catch a train from Cardiff, but I don't think that's too taxing, it should be direct. You might even be able to get one early enough to avoid having to stay overnight, but the advice is usually to arrive at the embassy around 7:00am regardless of your appointment time.

Have a look at the Trainline.com for advanced fares which should get you a discount and sites like Trivago for cheap hotels around Marble Arch.

Thank you very much for the info. It's such a shame we don't have one here, you'd think they'd at least have one in Cardiff! I've travelled to London once on bus after leaving here at around 5am and got there pretty early so I think I should be able to get home the same day. Will definitely check out those sites!

If it helps, the nearest one I could find that wasn't bank-breaking (the embassy is conveniently located in one of the most expensive hotel districts in London) was the Raddison Blu Edwardian Sussex. I managed to find a room for about £99.

You're welcome - good luck with the rest of the process and let us know if you need any further help.

They might have a consulate in Cardiff, but they've sort of conglomerated IV processing to usually the largest city in the country/region. I know for us, that meant having to go to a different country.

I once went from Wales down to London with bus/train. Needed to set out at least by 5ish in the morning to get there. My suggestion would be to get there the previous day, do a little shopping, and book a nice place to stay. That way you could be up and refreshed the next morning for your interview.

Definitely go with the previous day. They tend to schedule appointments for 8 or 9 am and you don't want to be worrying about transport issues on the way there at stupid o clock. I have to get to London from Scotland and have no option but to overnight it there. Get yourself an Oyster card for public transport at discounted rates in London, book a hotel or use Airbnb and then you can do a pre interview day walk to time it out and make sure you know where to go the day before.

I am frustrated that there is a US embassy right here in Edinburgh, but they don't deal with immigrant visas. That means two trips to London - one for the medical and one for the interview and therefore two hotels as well. I think it will cost more for these two trips than the visa fees for myself and my daughter!

That's actually something else I'm concerned about - what happens with the medical? We haven't had any information about it (although I have not received information from my end yet) so I was starting to think I wouldn't even need a medical. So that is something that definitely happens still? Also, does it HAVE to be in London? Because if so, that'll be tough too

Only one place to do the medical.

There's a really wonderful and helpful guide in the UK forum that will guide you step by step.

You have a lot still to get done with regard to making sure your shots are up to date, getting your fiancé to give you the I134 with supporting evidence, getting your police certificate, filling out the remaining forms and paying the fee, and then finally your interview. You will need a medical, so yes, that means two trips to London.

I have quite bad anxiety so I am very afraid that I have to do this part all on my own, especially with no car so only with buses and trains instead. But I will get it done, and hopefully I will get accepted. I live in a very rural area with no shops by me too so getting to the police station for the certificate will be a little hard too and to get to somewhere to take new photos, but I will try my very best.

Thank you so so much for the advice, it's helped me out a lot, despite making me even more nervous! Haha

You don't go to the Police Station for the certificate. You can print the forms from the website, submit the required photos and evidence and you send it off in the mail. Mine was back within ten days. Use the link to the guides posted in a previous post. It tells you everything you need to do and how to do it. Take it one step at a time and come back and ask when you need help at each stage, if necessary. If you try to guess and worry about everything before you go through the guides, you are going to overwhelm yourself and add to the anxiety.
