How do i book the biometrics appointment?

Just got my NOA1 email/texts and I'm just wondering how the biometrics process works. I'm leaving for vacation August 5th - 14th so I'm just worried they'll schedule an appointment during that time.

Do they send you an appointment date that you must attend or can you choose a date yourself?

Thanks

If you happen to miss it, just go when you get back and they will take you. Others have gone late and nothing happened. Biometrics is kinda informal really. It's not like being a no-show at your greencard interview.

Okay great, because judging by my current timeline I feel like my appointment date is going to be while I'm on vacation.

Can I go for the biometrics appointment before my vacation if they schedule me during it?

If you get your appointment letter before you leave for vacation you can try for an early walk-in. I went for an early walk-in on one of my biometrics, 2 weeks before the actual appointment.

And they were completely fine with that? Did you call in before hand?

It's a 2.5 hour drive so I don't want to drive all the way there and have them reject me

They were perfectly fine with that but I had to wait for a few minutes before they let me in. The guard had to ask the supervisor first. I did not call, I just showed up. I live 10 minutes from the office so I decided to take a chance, many others have been successful with early walk-ins too. I recommend not to go in the morning, they seem to be way more busy then, try in the afternoon.

You might find your office in the list here, check out the comments about that office if so, might give you an idea if they allow early walk-ins or not.

You need to try and search on here if your office will allow it. I know some do not what so ever.

Just checked my office, not looking good:

"ILLINOIS

Naperville (abut 30 miles west of Chicago) - My appt was 8/13. Went on 8/30 at 2pm but was unsuccessful - only one technician on duty. I asked if there was any point in trying again and was told 'I can't tell you not to try again but to try earlier in the day'. I went on 8/1 at 11am and was seen after the 11am appts. I was in and out in about 25 minutes. I was told that I shouldn't really be doing this and not to do it again but at least they saw me. I didn't give any reason for wanting an earlier appt. I just said that I had been waiting so long during the whole K1 process, I would like to get a head start on AOS!"

However their google reviews seem to be really good: https://g.co/kgs/3oo2LY

Yeah the office I go to didn't let me in when I was 30 minutes early for my first appointment, I had to wait next to the line. But for my second appointment I tried the early walk-in and that worked just fine, and that was 2 weeks early, not just 30 minutes.

It all really depends on your local office. I know for us, our is in OKC (1 1/2hrs away) and when we were there for the scheduled biometrics appt. for my husband for the AOS, we were about 30mins early and they would not let us in the building until 5mins before our appt. or anyone else either. They also had a few that didn't have an appt. and were turned away.
