Say what you will about the RUB forum but there is a lot of good immigration information on RUB issues. It helped me a lot. I'm an ex-submariner and I would like to think that it is difficult to embarass me. But, there is one person there that even makes me shake my head at times.
I think if we are being honest here there are anti family friendly rhetoric coming from the other side as well. RUB wives being called prostitutes without action from any MOD. Sometimes it looks like there is a double standard.
Anyway, I would like to thank those of you that have helped me and kept an open mind no matter how I chose to find my happiness...

I seem to fail to understand how regionals are so detrimental. They have been a God send to many and help in many ways that go way and above most other forums on the site. The insights the older members can give the newer ones are tremendous. It goes way and above just the consulate discussion. We do use it for what Kathryn noted but much more. We have used it to help other members with problems that were not in the area of Visa or consulate and maybe that is why many here want them banned as the site is Visa related but what is wrong on giving advice on other matters having to do with not just Visas. Flight info, hotel info, traveling info, or just news that has come up and its effects. Sometimes when someone is traveling to where our region is we ask if there is anything anyone needs and do help each other. Is this why many want the regional banned?
What exactly are the reasons wanting all the regionals banned? All I have seen is someone sees tribalism, one regional seems to be rude, and even have seen someone say it is hard to moderate. What specific reasons are needed to get rid of the regionals? Just an all out blanket to get rid of them because a few don't like them is not enough reason. We need real reasons.
The tribalism that one sees may be there and that is because we have formed friendships. It is this friendships that keep many here to help the newer ones coming in for help. To get rid of the social aspect of the site pretty much means that when one is done with their journey they will move on and not be there for future journeys. Social aspects means bonds are formed. Bonds tend to be longer lasting. Bonds tend to also give oneself a feeling to want to help.

I'll admit....I don't get this whole objectifying women thing. Just because we celebrate the beauty of RUB women does not mean we don't value them for anything else! Fact is, the beauty is just the tip of the iceberg. It's only ONE of the many advantages to RUB women.
I try to avoid putting down American women as a whole...there are some really great ones out there...they are usually married...or so elusive that it's simply easier to travel halfway around the world. Everyone has their own likes/dislikes/opinions...for me, a RUB woman was exactly what I was looking for.
As far as cats and dogs goes...add me to the list of those that had to pay an unofficial payment to get my wife's cat and dog from Ukraine to the USA. It was either that or "pick which one we wanted to take". I was so happy to know that was my last unofficial payment to get someone just to do their job. That said, I wish USCIS *did* take unoffical payments so I could finally get some results from them.

Most of the stuff you said is quite right, but I can't agree with this sentence. I would say it's better when it's a "husband, friend and lover". Can be father for some FSU women, but mostly if they were deprived of father's attention and these very women are more likely to date guys, who are 10-15 or even 20-25 years older than them. If a woman had a caring father, she's not going to look for another one, she's more likely to look for a friend.

I don't really like the word "queen", but "princess" is even worse for me. I don't know, maybe age has something to do with it, but i'm used to hear the word "princess" when people are referring to somebody spoilt and misbehaving.

Still, why even have the -1 if it is going to be abused so badly? Someone that is unpopular may actually post something good but some will not care at all and just give -1's. Why is this a good thing? Especially in the OT and P&R thread people are more emotional than usual so they are petty and will use the -1 personally. Everything I have read so far on this very thread shows me that it is the main reason that the -1 is wanted at all as a personal and not to register the honest opinion of a post.

FWIW, I oppose both +1 and -1. The reason stems from a management perspective, in that often times managers will provide a rating on a subordinate, without the requisite "written" rationale to support that rating. This is totally unfair. Obviously the parameters are unique here, but the rationale is the same.
This is especially important in the upper forums, in that bad advice could receive 10/+1 ratings, leading the OP down the wrong path.
If the site required supportive text on the ratings, I would be 100% behind both + and -.

Agreed, when Ukraine was lumped in with lots of other countries (some of them much more active) it was tough to sort through. I don't know how to reconfigure them so that most countries are easily seen without Ewok having to constantly guage the traffic and move them around though. Not to mention there would perhaps be a lot more forums.
This is a good point also. We see plenty of newer members that just stay in the immigration related forums, and that is fine. Sometimes they tell us that they don't want to post in (some of) the regionals, or P&R or OT, because of the nastiness they see there. The regionals ought to be a safer place, but the members there still need to be able to voice an opinion. There are also some members who just leave because they say they are tired of those stronger personalities.

For someone who is so concerned with dragging the good name of VJ down, this thread is very ironic.
You know what I would like? I would like the opportunity to post numerous threads in the Site Discussion forum about how certain members should excuse themselves from posting on VJ because of the offensive nature of their comments. That's what I would like.

What I find contemptable is members using VJ as a social networking service, and acting like they have a right to burn resources needed by those that actually have an immigration issue to deal with. Things like policing by proxy, mashing the report button to force the mods to run in circles mediating some drama that you started, and screaming bloody murder when your wishes aren't followed.

Being used to police that way is a source of unending frustration for us. As AJ has stated (among others), Ewok is reluctant to permanently ban the folks that take up so much of our time policing nothing. The regulars know it, and constantly push the TOS to the limit while reporting every violation (or imagined violation) from people they don't like. I agree with your initial point about folks in the upper forums needing our attention and help with the site. Please appreciate how tough it is to give them enough when four members in P&R are casting insults and posting porn links, then reporting each other ten times because they are so offended on religious grounds (just a made up example).

It is a violation of the VJ TOS to: Make comments in a Post either direct or implied toward another member that are purposely designed to upset, antagonize, make fun of, belittle, or otherwise instigate an argument that takes away from the personal enjoyment of the Service by other users.
I have removed a post that clearly violates this rule, and all posts that quoted it. Thanks to all the members who reported it.

The moderators seem to spend a disproportionate time in OT/PR.
Why?
Moderators are needed in the upper forums! There are more TOS violations there than in OT/PR combined.
-Name calling.
-Unlicensed legal Advice
-Immigration fraud advice
-there is currently a big hate fest directed at beneficiaries from certain countries
...just to name a few.
Please explain to me why on an immigration forum the mods seem to devote so much time to OT/PR- and lay the heavy mod hand down there for the slightesi infringement, carpet banning folks for the weakest of reasons...editing their posts.........-yet let so much #######/TOS violation go in the upper forums?

mods cannot edit a members post - only ewok can do that. mods can "remove" a post - i.e. remove it from general viewing, but it's still there. only ewok can delete a post.

on the other hand, maybe if you're being subjected to moderator action frequently, perhaps it's you that needs to modify your behavior?

The other member had multiple extra accounts confirmed and at least one of those accounts was used to violate the TOS (not just for personal posting). I could eliminate one member with a reasonable doubt but in doing so the other member was left with the charge and no wiggle room.

I should really let Captain Ewok handle this but I'm going to step in because frankly, I am tired of this nonsense. Yes, I am having a bad week and my patience is wearing thin. Brad did not suspend your account. Captain Ewok suspended both accounts. Your reply to him apparently raised some doubt about the degree of your complicity so that is why your suspension was lifted. As I am aware of the particulars involved in the reasons for these suspensions, my personal opinion is that both of you got off very lightly and should be facing much stronger consequences. I am rather appalled at your audacity to raise this issue in this way as if you both were some sort of victims which is far from the case. I suggest that if you wish to 'throw stones' you should first of all get your facts straight, and second - move out of your 'glass house'.

This is one of the things that make moderating so difficult. Accuse someone of making bigoted posts and the site is labeled as some sort of socialist/communist/liberal/CNN-watching/Obama-supporting/Birkenstock-wearing haven. I've pointed out before, your tolerance level for bigotry would make half of what is said on Fox News against the TOS. While I agree with you, I just don't think it's feasible for the site.
