Seems like this could be related to international relationships and immigration.

How AI is revolutionizing Internet fraud and romance scams

Federal investigators warn that a new wave of romance scammers is using artificial intelligence to generate fake photos, audio, and even videos. This technological advancement makes it easier to pull off a romance scam and harder to spot one.

Rao said, "It's chilling and it makes it hard for law enforcement to intervene."

Prosecuting romance scammers can be challenging, in large part because many of them operate overseas. However, federal prosecutors have shown they will pursue cases aggressively when they have the opportunity. In 2021, 35 people in North Texas were indicted on federal charges related to romance scams that stole $17 million from more than 100 victims nationwide. In March, one of the women involved in the scheme received a 10-year prison sentence and was ordered to pay $2 million in restitution.

If you have become a victim, experts say to contact your bank right away and tell them what happened. Also, report the crime to the Federal Trade Commission.

That's why I prefer to keep it robot-level, plenty of romance, no immigration risk, just sadness when the server dies.

So hello everyone, after posting in this group and learning so much things have gone to a bad turn. Things aren’t going well at all and we both are considering a divorce. So here is the run down, she has never been in the United States and we had gotten Married in October (7months)of last year in Nigeria. I already filed the I-130 and still waiting. Regarding the divorce, how do I seek a divorce from my wife so she doesn’t retain my last name. I could just leave but I do not think that’s the right thing to do. Is it possible for me to file for a divorce without having to return to Nigeria? And I was reading about the 2 year rule of divorce in Nigeria and I was wondering if that applied to me since I’m not a resident of Nigeria? I need help please!!!!

Where are you residing? You can file for divorce in that state.  Not sure if you have any power in deciding which name she will use in the future.

Might be a good idea to consult with an attorney to make sure you don't forget anything; might or might not be able to file on your own, depending on the situation, and how comfortable you are with paperwork.

My fiancee had her intervirw today and unfortunately they told her there’s a missing document, her birth certificate, and did not proceed with the approval until that gets mailed in.

We’re pretty devestated since it’s been a long journey and I was particularly confident that the interview would be smooth sailing…

Has anyone gone through a missing document process? How long did it take after mailing the missing document? Weeks? Months?

To clarify, i’m American and she’s French. She had her interview in Paris.

    It's a relatively common occurrence, don't panic.

Some locations are faster than others at treating files after the interview.  You might want to search the forum for recent Paris experiences, to get a better idea.  Bonne chance!

  4. You can discuss this with the interviewing officer.   Easiest might be to fly back to your residence, then mail the passport back to the consulate.  Other option might be to stay in Guangzou until the visa is issued, however, in most consulates, that is no longer an option.

What other documents are acceptable to travel?  Anything else your son could get before the interview?

@pushbrk I downloaded adobe acrobat reader: PDF app for my iPad and opened the same document provided by the hyperlink on the IR-1/CR-1 guides page, which is the same form on the USCIS website. I have a free trial of Adobe Acrobat pro.  When I attempt to edit the form, a pop up window appears and says “read-only pdf”.

My assumption is that it’s an issue with the document being password protected. Is there a non password protect file out there?

Which field/box is giving you trouble?  I'll try it here and see if it is the form, or something on your side.

Just tested with the example in your first message, and I had no problem.  Just needed to check the box before the text field was active.

I have seen this kind of issue with people using mac/ipads.

  6. In addition to the good advice already provided, your local library or community center might have English Talk Time, or a similar program, where she could practice her skills.  In my town, they also do mock citizenship interviews.

I am sure she will appreciate your support.  Best of luck to you two!

I believe I've read about people successfully using offer letters on these things, so I don't know if 6 months of previous employment is necessary.

Also, I'm not employed. The assets should be more than enough, though.

The onus is on you to demonstrate to them the value of your assets, that they are liquid, etc.  No 401k, IRA, anything else more traditional to show them?  Otherwise, the joint sponsor solution is certainly the easiest solution.

Asking on behalf of my brother.

My brother is a Canadian citizen, being sponsored by his US citizen wife. They have 2 kids together. She previously sponsored his ex husband.

My sister in law said USCIS told them they need to have DNA testing done for the 2 kids to prove the relationship to my brother (their father). This made no sense to me and I'm not sure why they would need this. Both kids were born in the US and he is on the birth certificate as their father.

Is there any way in which USCIS would request this information?

USCIS told them: who/how exactly?  The call centre agent? They got a letter?

After we were denied boarding to South Korea because the Korean immigration authorities would not accept the extension letter, we applied her for a Visa from the Korean consolate.

Today we got back a rejection because they too fail too recognize the extension letter.

Is there any way to get a replacement GC with a valid expiration date?

Failing that I'll have to apply her for an N-400 and see how long that takes.  😞

    Open for thoughts.

Interesting that CBP took down the above document.

The document has been updated since 2017.

I thank everyone for mixed feelings and comments concerning the FRAUD INTERVIEW case I posted July last year. I believe this's serve as an experience to everyone.

Eventually I was scheduled for the said interview( Fraud Interview / Second Interview), but seems to me as an interaction specifically based on some intimate questions like "did you have SEX with your wife etc".

The fraud interview went fine on September 12,2023.

December 12,2023 US-EMBASSY Lagos called me that my VISA was ready but my medical remained 6 days to expire, and that if I could still make it or I  go for another medical, I chose the second option, I went for my medicals, and on February 2, 2024 I got my VISA.

I arrived in USA March 3rd. Glory be to God am now living happily with my wife, yesterday I got my US-Green Card.

Contrary to some bad feelings, insinuation and derogatory statements from you guys, NOT EVERY MARRIAGE ARE STAGED & FRAUD INTERVIEW DOESN'T MEAN YOU NECESSARILY COMMIT FRAUD AS IT IMPLIES.

    Thanks for the update.

    Hello,

Does anyone know when the US are likely to get rid of the vaccine requirement for the medical?

On the USCIS website it states the following:

    Q. What will happen if I refuse to receive one or all of the required vaccines?

    A. Tell the civil surgeon if you do not wish to receive the required vaccines or a particular vaccine. You should also tell the civil surgeon the reason you do not wish to receive the vaccine(s). In this case, a waiver may be available to you, but only under the following circumstances:

    • You are opposed to all vaccinations in any form– a waiver may not be granted if you only object to specific vaccinations;
    • Your objection must be based on religious beliefs or moral convictions; and
    • The religious or moral beliefs must be sincere.

Regarding the moral convictions, how likely do you think that these are accepted?

Does this mean that if I book the medical in London, and then present my case to the doctor performing the medical, if they believe my reasoning to genuine, sincere and moral, then they will grant me a waiver?

    Thanks!

    Remove all vaccines requirements?

I don't see that ever happening.  The list will evolve, depending on available vaccines/actively spread diseases.

ETA: you can search vaccine waiver to read about others' experience.  It seems to add about year to the process.

Part of the list of required vaccines for my fiance in the UK is a Pertussis. Unfortunately he can't find anyone who is willing to give it to him because the doctors offices are insisting they are only available for children and pregnant women.
I don't understand why the embassy would require this when it's not even available for men. Does anyone have any advice or a personal experience with this situation? We have everything else we need done before the interview, this is the only thing left.

    Thank you!

Did the doctor tell him it was required for him during the medical exam?  Required vaccines are different depending on age/prior immunizations received.

Witholding taxes, clearance certificates...it's messy REALLY FAST and yet avoidable.

To add to that: tax law can get very complicated, and with large assets/transactions, it might be worth it to consult with an accountant/fiscal lawyer/expert to advise on all possible implications/costs.

I would if I could but I financially cannot afford it. Oh I see, I think there’s been a misunderstanding here then as I was simply updating this post.

Some non-profit organizations are offering very low interest rate loans (1%) for people in your situation.   Do not delay filing because you are unable to afford it, ask family, a friend, or look up for such a non-profit.  Best of luck.
